About us
My Emergency Doctor (MED) is part of Connected Medical Solutions. We were set up in 2016 by a group of Australian emergency physicians to give hospitals and health services around-the-clock access to senior emergency doctors by video and phone. Since then the business has grown well beyond that original service. Today we work with public and private hospitals, ambulance services, aged care providers and primary care, and our services include FACEM On-Demand, Virtual Admission Services, Virtual Board Rounds, low-acuity and secondary triage models, and a growing allied health and specialist offering.
The role
We need an experienced Business Development Manager to take ownership of our public health portfolio and grow it. You won't be starting from scratch. You'll pick up existing customers and an active pipeline across Local Health Districts, Hospital and Health Services, Local Health Networks, public hospitals and ambulance services, along with services that are already working well. There is still a lot of ground to cover, both in growing those accounts and in bringing on health services we don't yet work with.
Most of the work involves sitting down with health service executives and clinical leaders, understanding the pressures they're under, and working out where we can help. That might be after-hours medical cover in a regional hospital, support for a stretched emergency department, or a new model of care we build together.
What you'll be doing
Growing our existing customers
- Developing account plans for our major public health customers and owning their growth.
- Building relationships beyond our current contacts, particularly at executive level.
- Spotting where customers have clinical or workforce gaps and extending our services into new sites and models of care.
Winning new business
- Building a national pipeline across LHDs, HHSs, LHNs, public hospitals and ambulance services.
- Using your existing network to get in front of the right decision-makers.
- Focusing on areas such as rural workforce shortages, after-hours gaps, ED demand, patient flow and access to specialists.
- Representing MED at conferences, executive forums and industry events.
Proposals, tenders and commercials
- Running discovery, putting together proposals and business cases, and negotiating contracts.
- Setting pricing and commercial structures that suit each customer. Leading public health tenders and getting MED positioned well before they're released.
- Working with our Clinical, Operations, Implementation, Workforce and Finance teams so that what we propose is safe and can be delivered.
Pipeline and reporting
- Owning the public health pipeline and revenue targets, and keeping Salesforce up to date.
- Providing accurate forecasts and regular updates to the Commercial Director and executive team.
- Passing on customer feedback and market insight to help shape our services and pricing.
What we're looking for
You'll need:
- Senior business development or account management experience in Australian public health.
- Established relationships with public health executives and the credibility to deal with them from the start.
- A record of turning those relationships into signed contracts.
- A good understanding of how state health systems, LHDs, HHSs and LHNs are structured and how they buy services.
- Experience with government tenders, procurement and long sales cycles.
- The ability to understand a clinical problem and build a sound commercial case around it.
- Solid writing and presentation skills, and good habits around pipeline management.
- Willingness to travel interstate.
It would also help if you have:
- Experience in virtual care, telehealth, emergency medicine or clinical workforce services.
- Worked across more than one state health system, or have relationships in rural and regional health.
- Worked with ambulance services or statewide virtual care programs.
- A clinical, nursing, allied health, paramedic or health management background.
- Used Salesforce.
Above all, we want someone who is comfortable in a room with a hospital CEO or medical director, listens before they pitch, and follows through. You'll be working closely with our clinical and operational teams, so you need to enjoy collaborating as much as closing deals.
Why MED?
We're a clinician-led business with a strong reputation in public health and a lot of m
