Eastwoods Dining is seeking a talented Commis Chef or Cook to join our dynamic kitchen team on a full-time basis in Airlie Beach, Queensland. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your culinary skills within a busy, professional hospitality environment. As a Commis Chef, you will work under the guidance of experienced chefs, supporting food preparation, cooking & kitchen operations whilst building your foundation in a fast-paced dining establishment. This role is essential to maintaining the quality and consistency of our dishes, and provides the perfect stepping stone for aspiring chefs looking to advance their culinary career.
What you'll be doing
- Preparing and cooking food items according to established recipes and presentation standards
- Assisting senior chefs with mise en place, including chopping, peeling & portioning ingredients
- Operating kitchen equipment safely & maintaining cleanliness of workstations and cooking areas
- Following food safety & hygiene protocols to ensure compliance with health & safety regulations
- Supporting the smooth running of kitchen service during busy periods
- Plating & garnishing dishes to meet restaurant standards
- Monitoring & rotating stock, reporting shortages to kitchen management
- Collaborating with the kitchen team to ensure timely & accurate food delivery
- Learning new cooking techniques & recipes under mentorship from experienced chefs
What we're looking for
- A hospitality or culinary qualification (such as a chef apprenticeship or relevant training certificate)
is benefical but not essential
- Strong foundational knowledge of food preparation, cooking method & kitchen safety
- Excellent attention to detail & commitment to food quality and presentation standards
- The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment
- Positive communication skills & a collaborative approach to working as part of a team
- Physical fitness and stamina for standing for extended periods and handling hot equipment
- A willingness to learn and develop your culinary skills under supervision
- Reliable & punctual with a qualified attitude
- Food handling certification or the willingness to obtain it
Preferred experience
- Previous experience working in a professional kitchen environment
- Experience with restaurant-quality plating & presentation techniques
