Elysian Retreat is an intimate, secluded boutique resort located on Long Island in the beautiful Whitsundays. With just 10 guest villas and a maximum of 20 guests, we offer a personalised barefoot-luxury experience where exceptional food, genuine hospitality and attention to detail are central to the guest experience.

We are seeking a passionate, organised and experienced Chef to join our small island team.

About the Role

This is a hands-on culinary position suited to a chef who enjoys creating fresh, beautifully presented meals in an intimate dining environment.

You will assist with menu planning, food preparation, cooking, presentation and daily kitchen operations, working closely with resort management and the hospitality team.

As an island resort, we value chefs who are creative, resourceful, organised and confident managing ingredients, stock and food preparation with limited access to mainland suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Service

- Prepare, cook and present high-quality meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner as rostered.
- Deliver consistent food quality, flavour and presentation.
- Assist with developing seasonal menus and daily specials.
- Cater for dietary requirements, allergies and guest preferences.
- Maintain appropriate portion control and minimise food waste.
- Ensure meals are delivered efficiently and to a consistently high standard.

Kitchen Operations

- Maintain excellent food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards.
- Follow food safety procedures and maintain required records.
- Assist with ordering, stock rotation, storage and inventory control.




- Monitor food quality, freshness and correct storage temperatures.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance requirements.
- Ensure the kitchen is clean, organised and ready for service.

Teamwork & Guest Experience

- Work closely with the food and beverage team to coordinate meal service.
- Communicate guest dietary requirements and special requests.
- Contribute ideas for menu improvements and memorable dining experiences.
- Support other kitchen and resort duties as reasonably required.

About You

Essential

- Relevant commercial cookery qualifications or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Previous experience in a professional kitchen.
- Robust food preparation, cooking and presentation skills.
- Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements.
- Ability to work independently and remain organised during service.
- Experience catering for allergies and dietary requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and a positive team attitude.
- Ability to plan ahead and manage stock effectively.

Highly Regarded

- Experience in boutique hotels, resorts or intimate fine-dining environments.
- Menu development and food-costing experience.
- Experience with seafood and fresh Australian produce.
- Previous remote or island resort experience.
- Experience working in small kitchen teams.
