Melbourne

Join BRE Services as it translates potential into client results by harnessing specialist engineering expertise to create safer, smarter and more productive workplaces.

BRE Services is a trusted leader in industrial solutions, specialising in electrical, automation, machine safety and mechanical services for some of Australia’s most respected national brands.

Based in Melbourne, with a national project footprint, we deliver reliable, innovative engineering solutions that improve safety, efficiency and performance across food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, logistics and other critical sectors.

We’re not here simply to meet compliance requirements. We want to set the standard for practical machine safety. By combining specialist safety engineering with deep automation, electrical and mechanical capability, we help clients identify risk, engineer the right solution and see it through from assessment to implementation and validation.

BRE Services' existing machine safety capability spans consultation, risk assessment, safety requirements specifications, engineering and schematics, electrical and mechanical upgrades, programming and integration, validation and handover.

As demand grows, attracting exceptional talent aligned with our mission is critical. Led by engineers and tradespeople who live and breathe industrial technology, BRE Services offers more than jobs. We offer standout careers built alongside people driven by curiosity, sound engineering judgement and a commitment to creating safer, smarter and more sustainable ways to work.

Machine Safety Engineers, this is your chance to set the standard in machine safety.

We are looking for a Machine Safety Engineer who wants direct exposure to complex industrial environments and the opportunity to work with globally recognised brands and future-focused businesses.

By deploying your capabilities at BRE Services, you’ll work directly with clients to understand their risks, interpret technical and legislative requirements, develop practical solutions and translate engineering decisions into measurable safety and operational outcomes.

You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team with the capability to take safety recommendations beyond the report and into detailed engineering, implementation and validation. This end-to-end model is consistent with BRE's existing machine safety service offering.

The Chance

As a Machine Safety Engineerat BRE Services, you will take ownership of machine safety projects from initial risk assessment and consultation through safety design, implementation support, validation and handover.

Working with globally recognised brands across diverse industries, you’ll build relationships directly with clients, combining engineering judgement with a practical understanding of machinery and production environments to turn complex safety requirements into achievable solutions.

This isn't a role confined to writing reports. You'll work alongside automation engineers,

electrical teams and mechanical specialists to help clients understand what needs to change, why it needs to change and how it can practically be achieved.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct machine risk assessments and safeguarding reviews across existing and new plant, including determining required Performance Levels for safety functions.
- Develop Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS) and safety concepts that translate identified risks into practical engineering requirements.
- Design and review safety-related control systems and machine electrical safety systems, incorporating technologies such as safety PLCs, safety relays, light curtains, interlocks, safety scanners and emergency-stop systems.
- Undertake machine safeguarding and safety circuit audits, providing clients with clear findings, prioritised risks and practical options for improvement.
- Perform and document verification and validation of safety functions on site, ensuring completed solutions satisfy their defined safety requirements.
- Prepare professional engineering documentation including risk assessment reports, safety schematics, test plans, validation reports and supporting technical documentation.
- Apply relevant Australian Standards and legislative requirements, including AS/NZS 4024, AS/NZS 3000, AS 61508 and applicable WHS legislation, to real-world machinery and industrial environments.
- Provide technical consulting directly to clients, explaining risk, compliance requirements and engineering recommendations in clear commercial and operational terms.
- Support business development and project scoping through site inspections, technical discussions, concept development and input into proposals and estimates.
- Collaborate with BRE’s automation, electrical, mechanical and project delivery teams to take recommendations through detailed engineering, implementation and validation.
- Contribute to the continued development of BRE Services’ machine safety capability, technical standards, processes and knowledge.

About You

- You're an experienced Safety Engineer who wants ownership, impact, and pace. You have experience delivering machine safety work in production environments, you're as comfortable in front of a client as you are on site, and you think two steps ahead. Ideally, you’ll bring with you:
- An electrical background: a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), or an A-Grade electrical qualification with strong machine safety experience.
- Working knowledge of the AS/NZS 4024.1 series (including 1201, 1204, 1501 and 1503) and AS 61508, and the ability to apply them to real machines.
- Hands-on experience with safety PLCs and safety components (Siemens,

Allen-Bradley/Rockwell GuardLogix, Pilz, Sick, Schneider or similar).
- Functional safety certification is highly regarded (TÜV Rheinland FS Engineer, CMSE or equivalent).
- Sharp diagnostics, clean documentation, and an uncompromising approach to WHS and Australian Standards.
- Client-facing confidence: you can translate technical decisions into commercial outcomes.
- Collaborative by default; able to mentor, lift standards, and lead when it counts.
- Willingness to travel to client sites around Victoria and interstate as projects require.
- Valid Australian work rights and driver's licence.

This role is for high performers who want to lead significant work and be measured by meaningful outcomes, not time served.

Cultural Fit

We’re proud of the culture we’ve built and hire deliberately for fit. Professionalism and technical excellence matter as much as collaboration, consideration, commitment, and being down-to-earth. With this intent, we’ve created a workplace our people are proud of, cohesive enough that colleagues become lifelong friends, and every individual is seen, valued, and supported.

What We Offer

At BRE Services, our culture of innovation is fuelled by the capabilities of our multidisciplinary team of automation engineers, safety engineers, skilled tradespeople and industry specialists: people with the capability to transform industries.

For a Machine Safety Engineer, that multidisciplinary model is particularly powerful. BRE's existing safety offering explicitly combines TÜV-certified safety engineering with its Automation, Electrical and Mechanical teams to deliver end-to-end ownership.

Our employee benefits support these ambitions, and include:

- Competitive remuneration that reflects your impact, with clear progression benchmarks, regular reviews and a commitment to rewarding excellence as we grow.
- Ownership of significant machine safety projects with nationally recognised clients, from initial assessment and consultation through engineering and validation.
- Career acceleration and specialist development through tailored development pathways, training and skills development, vendor education and exposure to complex industrial safety applications.
- A multidisciplinary engineering environment where recommendations don't have to stop at a report. You'll work alongside automation, electrical and mechanical specialists capable of delivering the engineered solution.
- National project footprint with a Melbourne base and hybrid flexibility when not required on client sites.
- Genuine investment in you, including professional development, structured progression and leadership opportunities as our Machine Safety capability continues to grow.
- Benefits that grow with the business: an industry-leading employee loyalty program that rewards commitment with real financial value, Employee Assistance Program, exposure to large-scale industries and technologies, plus an evolving benefits suite aligned with our growth trajectory.
