Want to lead a people function where you can see the difference your work makes?
We’re partnering with an established commercial cleaning and property services business looking for a People & Culture Manager to take ownership of its people function.
Working directly with the Managing Director, you’ll help leaders build stronger teams, improve the employee experience and put practical processes in place across a dispersed workforce. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the approach and stay close enough to the operation to see whether it’s working.
What you’ll take ownership of
- Build trust with frontline employees and managers through regular site visits, meaningful conversations and follow-through.
- Turn employee feedback into improvements in engagement, retention and the way people are managed.
- Coach operational leaders through performance, employee relations and everyday people decisions.
- Strengthen onboarding, leadership development and the systems supporting the employee lifecycle.
- Build recruitment processes managers can use effectively, while supporting senior appointments. The remit isn’t to personally fill every frontline vacancy.
- Own the people function, working with operational leaders and external HR support.
Who this would suit
You’ve owned a people function, or led substantial parts of one, and can talk clearly about what you personally changed and achieved.
You’re comfortable advising senior leaders, but equally happy visiting a site, listening to employees and understanding what’s happening on the ground. You bring sound HR judgement and know how to turn a valuable idea into something managers actually use.
Experience with multi-site or shift-based workforces will be valuable. That could come from cleaning, facilities, logistics, hospitality, care or another operational service environment. Relevant experience matters more than having worked in exactly the same industry.
The practical side
$120,000–$150,000 base salary + superannuation + car or car allowance, depending on experience.
This is initially a standalone people role, with no direct reports.
This is a Melbourne-based role with regular site travel. Connecting with teams across different shifts means some early‑morning or evening visits. It will suit someone who enjoys being visible and involved across the business.
