We are looking for an experienced journalist with skills in print,radioand video – or a commitment to learn the skills necessary for the platforms you have not mastered.

ABC News is looking for a rural specialist to join our Mount Isa-based team as a mid-career reporter to create compelling and engaging content for local radio, CountryHourandLandline as well as ourdigitalnewsplatforms and video news and current affair programs (such as 7PM nightly news and 7.30).

As a Rural Reporter covering North West Queensland,you’llbe the voice of rural and regional communities creating content that informs, engages, and connects audiences across Australia.This role involves presenting programs such as the Rural Reportand sourcing stories that matter to farmers, producers, and regional communities, and ensuring they reach both local and national audiences.

You’llwork closely with ABC teams to share content across multiple platforms and contribute to planning and commissioningnew ideasthat strengthen ABC’s rural coverage.

The Job

- Gather,produceand present rural,miningand primary industry content for radio, digital,videoand socialmediaplatforms.
- Contribute to planning and commissioning processes to developnew contentideas.
- Engage with local communities to find and tell stories that resonate with audiences.




- Collaborate with ABC teams to share content nationally.

About You

You’repassionate about rural issues and have strong editorial skills.

You will:

- Have provenexperience as a working journalist, preferably with some skills inlive presentation and broadcast.
- Have a strong understanding of rural and regional issues and a commitment to diversity in storytelling.
- Be a self-starter and able to work with limited supervision as part of small team based in remote locations.
- Have excellent communication skills and be confident building new relationships and nurturing a networkofcontacts.
- Have a valid driver’s licence and a desire to get out of the office to meet people face-to-face.
