Melbourne

An integrated commercial interiors and project delivery business brings strategy, interior design, cost estimation and delivery together to support landlord and tenant clients. Its coordinated approach is designed to reduce project risk, improve transparency and provide commercial certainty throughout a project. The Melbourne studio works on commercial interior projects ranging from workplace fit-outs to building upgrades and shared facilities. Its project mix includes specification fit-outs, lift lobby upgrades, end-of-trip facilities and tenant fit-outs across a range of sectors, including heritage retrofit work. Design and delivery teams work closely together, giving a Senior Interior Designer the opportunity to contribute from the initial brief through to project delivery.

The Opportunity

You’ll join a collaborative Melbourne team as a Senior Interior Designer, leading two to three concurrent commercial interiors projects and reporting to the division lead. You’ll take projects from the first client brief through design and delivery, making design decisions, presenting proposals and managing client relationships throughout.

You’ll also provide direction to a junior designer and documenter on your project teams, helping them develop while keeping work moving. The role offers support from the wider team, alongside the independence to take initiative and lead your projects without waiting for day-to-day instruction. You’ll work across a varied project mix in a design-and-construction environment, with an opportunity to grow your leadership and client-management capability through hands-on responsibility.

You’ll work across a broad project scope, including:

Lead commercial interior projects, taking responsibility from the initial client brief through concept development, design documentation and delivery.

Interpret client and workplace requirements, clarify project priorities and translate them into considered interior design concepts and proposals.

Develop and refine design solutions for commercial projects, including major tenancy fit-outs across a range of sectors, specification fit-outs, lift lobby upgrades and end-of-trip facilities on landmark sites.

Prepare and develop design documentation using Revit,

remaining hands-on with design and documentation tasks when project needs require it, or lead a team of documentors depending on the project resourcing.

Create and present design proposals to clients and project teams, explaining design decisions and responding to feedback throughout the project.

Manage client relationships over the life of each project, maintaining clear communication and taking ownership of the design process.

Work within an integrated design-and-construction environment, collaborating with colleagues across design, estimation and delivery to support coordinated outcomes and project certainty.

Address design issues that arise during delivery and help maintain design quality as projects progress from proposal to completion.

Direct the work of junior or mid-level interior designers and/or documenters on project teams, providing clear guidance and supporting their development.

Balance the demands of several active projects, taking initiative, adapting to changing priorities and keeping work progressing with appropriate independence.

Use InDesign and Revit in day-to-day design work; use Enscape for visualisation, with some flexibility to develop proficiency in the tool.

Coordinate design inputs with relevant project stakeholders to help resolve delivery questions and keep the design aligned with the agreed brief.

To be considered for this role, you must have:

Senior-level interior design experience, with at least eight years’ experience (essential).

Local experience delivering workplace projects (essential).

Proficiency in Revit and the ability to work hands-on with design and documentation (essential).

Proficiency in InDesign.

Confidence leading projects from the initial client brief, rather than only developing work already defined by others.

Strong client-facing skills, including presenting design ideas,

pitching proposals and managing client relationships throughout a project (essential).

Experience providing direction to junior team members and supporting their development.

Design-and-construction experience (advantageous, but not essential).

Experience with Enscape; candidates with a strong overall profile may be supported in developing proficiency.

Curiosity, adaptability and a genuine interest in continuing to develop professionally.

The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team-oriented team.

What’s on offer

Project ownership and breadth: Lead two to three projects at a time, with involvement from the first client brief through design and delivery. The work spans different types of commercial interiors, giving you varied project experience and responsibility for the decisions you make.

Client leadership: Build on your client-facing experience by presenting proposals, managing relationships and guiding projects through their different stages. You’ll have the opportunity to take genuine ownership of the client relationship, with support from the division lead and wider team.

A leadership role within project teams: Work alongside a junior designer and documenter, providing direction and helping them develop. This gives you scope to strengthen your leadership approach through day-to-day project work.

Integrated project delivery: Collaborate with colleagues across strategy, design, estimation and delivery. The shared approach is intended to give clients clear visibility and reduce the risk of unexpected commercial outcomes.

A varied commercial project mix: Contribute to workplace and tenant fit-outs, specification projects, lift lobby upgrades, end-of-trip facilities and heritage retrofit work, with projects across a range of sectors.

Hybrid working: The role begins with an in-office probation period to support your introduction to the studio and its ways of working. After probation, the expectation is three days per week in the office, with the remainder worked from home, offering flexibility around personal commitments.

Salary on offer: $100,000-$140,000 + Superannuation
