Southern Steel QLD is seeking an experienced Processing Supervisor to join our Mackay branch.
We are looking for a hands‑on leader with proven supervisory experience, strong communication skills, knowledge of processing machinery and the ability to coordinate production schedules effectively.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys leading a team, keeping operations running smoothly and ensuring customer commitments are met safely and efficiently.
We can accommodate both an immediate start and candidates looking to commence in early 2027, depending on your availability.
About the Role
Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will oversee the day‑to‑day processing operations, coordinating people, machinery and production schedules to maximise productivity and meet customer requirements.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising and coordinating processing personnel, including machine operators and programming personnel.
- Planning and prioritising production schedules to meet customer deadlines.
- Allocating labour and resources to maximise productivity and machine utilisation.
- Monitoring production progress and communicating delays or issues to relevant departments.
- Working closely with the warehouse and sales teams to ensure orders are processed and available for despatch on time.
- Monitoring machine performance, identifying downtime and supporting continuous improvement.
- Maintaining product quality and ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.
- Supporting the training and development of team members to maintain a skilled and competent workforce.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience in a supervisory or team leadership role.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of processing machinery and production operations.
- Experience with production scheduling, job prioritisation and resource allocation.
- Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills.
- The ability to lead, motivate and support a team in a rapid‑paced operational environment.
- A commitment to workplace health and safety and product quality.
Experience in steel processing or a similar manufacturing environment will be highly regarded. The ability to interpret workshop drawings and an understanding of machine programming would also be advantageous.
