Accountant - Costing, Inventory & Accounts Payable

We are seeking an experienced and hands‑on Accountant to join our small, friendly and supportive Finance team at our newly renovated head office in Belrose.

This role offers a wide-ranging workload across cost accounting, inventory management, accounts payable, month-end reporting and general accounting support within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

We are looking for someone who is analytical, detail-oriented and proactive, with a willingness to take ownership of tasks at all levels. The successful candidate will be comfortable working across both detailed accounting processes and practical operational activities, including managing the end-to-end accounts payable process and conducting physical inventory cycle counts.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management

- Prepare, analyse and maintain cost accounting records, reports and supporting schedules.
- Maintain and review average costs for raw materials, packaging materials, work-in-progress (WIP) and finished goods.
- Coordinate stocktakes and cycle counts, perform inventory reconciliations, maintain stock controls and investigate discrepancies.
- Analyse material, labour and overhead costs, investigate significant cost variances and provide clear explanations to management.
- Complete month-end cost accounting processes and prepare monthly management reports.
- Review production and operational costs to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost savings.
- Assist with internal and external audit requirements.
- Undertake other costing and inventory-related duties as required.

Accounts Payable

- Manage the end-to-end accounts payable process, including verifying and processing supplier invoices against purchase orders, goods receipts and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate supplier accounts, reconcile supplier statements and investigate and resolve outstanding or disputed items.
- Prepare and process weekly supplier payment runs,



ensuring payments are accurate and made on time.
- Respond to supplier enquiries and resolve invoice and payment issues promptly.
- Maintain complete and accurate accounts payable records in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Month-End & General Accounting

- Assist with month-end closing, account reconciliations, accruals and financial reporting.
- Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete and maintained in accordance with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, internal controls and reporting.
- Provide general accounting support and undertake other ad hoc finance duties as required.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Experience in cost accounting, inventory accounting or general accounting, preferably within a manufacturing workplace.
- A sound understanding of inventory costing, cost variances, stock reconciliations and inventory controls.
- Practical experience managing accounts payable and supporting month-end accounting processes.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using accounting software or ERP systems.
- A proactive, hands‑on approach, with the ability to take ownership of tasks, investigate discrepancies and identify process improvements.
- The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across Finance, Purchasing, Warehouse and Production.
