About the role
The Grounds Maintenance Person is responsible for maintaining the organisation's outdoor areas to a high standard, ensuring that grounds, gardens, sporting fields, pathways and external facilities are safe, attractive, and functional. The role contributes to creating a positive environment for students, staff, visitors, and the wider community. This role works closely with the Property & Facilities Manager and Administration team and contributes to creating a secure, tidy and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

- Mow, edge, and maintain lawns, gardens, and landscaped areas.
- Plant, prune, weed, mulch and water garden beds and vegetation.
- Apply fertilisers, herbicides, and pesticides in accordance with safety regulations and organisation policies.
- Maintain trees, shrubs, and hedges to ensure healthy growth and appearance.
- Monitor irrigation systems and undertake minor repairs as required.
- Maintain sporting fields, playgrounds, pathways, and outdoor recreational areas.
- Remove litter and debris from grounds and external areas.
- Inspect and report damage, hazards, or maintenance issues.
- Operate and maintain grounds equipment, including mowers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, blowers,



and other machinery.
- Ensure safe storage and handling of tools, chemicals, and equipment. About you
- Experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, landscaping, or a related field.
- Knowledge of horticultural practices and grounds maintenance techniques.
- Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, Self motivated.
- Relevant tertiary qualification (i.e. Level II or III Certificate/Diploma in Horticulture) and/or relevant experience, Highly recommended.
- Good communication and organisation skills.
- Current drivers licence.
- Desirable: Qualifications in horticulture, landscaping, turf management, or a related discipline.
- Desirable: Experience maintaining sporting fields or educational facilities.
