About the role
Wolper Jewish Hospital is seeking a Catering Assistant/Kitchen Hand to join our hospitality team on a casual basis. Based in Woollahra, NSW, this role is fundamental to delivering high-quality meals and catering services to our patients, staff and visitors. As a Catering Assistant/Kitchen Hand, you will play an essential part in ensuring our kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently, whilst maintaining the highest standards of food preparation, hygiene and presentation. This is a casual position that offers flexibility and the opportunity to contribute to an important healthcare environment.
Key responsibilities
- Preparing and assembling meals and sandwiches according to standardised recipes and dietary requirements
- Maintaining kitchen cleanliness and hygiene standards, including regular sanitisation of work surfaces, equipment and utensils
- Assisting with food storage, inventory management and stock rotation
- Operating kitchen equipment safely and correctly, including ovens, grills, fryers and food preparation machinery
- Supporting the catering team in plating and presentation of meals to ensure they meet hospital standards
- Handling and storing ingredients appropriately, following food safety guidelines and regulations
- Assisting with dishwashing and pot washing when required
- Supporting the delivery of meals to patients and staff in a timely manner
- Reporting any equipment faults or safety concerns to management immediately
- Maintaining a positive and collaborative attitude within the kitchen team What we're looking for
- Previous experience working as a Kitchen Hand or in a catering environment, preferably in a healthcare or hospitality setting
- Food Safety Certification or willingness to obtain this qualification
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of food hygiene and safety
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Reliability and punctuality
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills
- A customer service mindset and genuine desire to support patient and staff satisfaction
