Capex Group Pty Ltd The Airconditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic is responsible for safely and competently installing, commissioning, servicing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing air-conditioning and refrigeration plant and equipment. The position supports planned projects and reactive service work across large commercial construction sites, office and retail fitouts, existing occupied buildings and residential properties.

The employee is expected to work independently when appropriate and as part of CAPEX project and service teams.

responsibilities Installation and project delivery Review mechanical drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, manufacturer instructions and site information to establish job requirements and set out installation reference points. Install commercial, industrial and domestic air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, including high-wall split systems, multi-split systems, ducted systems, packaged equipment, variable refrigerant flow systems and associated refrigeration plant where included in the project scope.

Install compressors, condensers, evaporators, fan assemblies, motors, valves, switches, gauges, controls, refrigeration pipework, condensate drains and associated mechanical components. Measure, cut, bend and install copper refrigerant pipework and complete compliant flared, pressed, brazed or welded joints appropriate to the system and manufacturer’s requirements. Install equipment supports, brackets and penetrations; coordinate equipment placement and service routes with builders and other trades; and verify alignment, clearances, access and quality of fit.

Undertake installation work on major construction projects and fitouts in accordance with approved drawings, programs, site instructions, inspection and test plans and CAPEX quality requirements. Commissioning and refrigerant work Pressure-test installed systems, carry out leak testing,



evacuate systems using vacuum pumps and charge systems with the specified refrigerant in accordance with applicable licence conditions and environmental requirements. Commission and test-operate systems in heating, cooling and refrigeration modes, measure operating conditions, adjust controls and verify that plant performs in accordance with design and manufacturer requirements.

Recover and handle refrigerants using approved equipment and practices, maintain required records and prevent avoidable emissions. Complete commissioning sheets, test results, defect records and handover information accurately and promptly Service, maintenance and fault diagnosis Attend scheduled maintenance visits and reactive breakdown call-outs at commercial and residential premises. Inspect and service indoor and outdoor units, filters, evaporator and condenser coils, fans, motors, drains, pumps, controls, electrical terminations and other accessible components.

Diagnose mechanical, refrigeration, electrical and controls-related faults using suitable test instruments, operating data, fault codes, drawings and manufacturer technical information. Repair or replace defective components such as compressors, motors, capacitors, sensors, valves, contactors, control boards, switches and gauges within the employee’s trade and licence scope. Check refrigerant pressures and temperatures, airflow, electrical operation, controls and system performance; identify leaks or abnormal operating conditions; and recommend practical remedial work.

Record the cause of equipment malfunctions, work completed, parts used, test results, system condition and recommendations in service reports and digital job records. Site coordination, safety and quality Comply with work health and safety legislation, site rules, safe work method statements, permits, isolation procedures, environmental obligations and CAPEX policies.



Participate in pre-starts, toolbox talks, site inductions, inspections and coordination meetings as required.

Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, elevated work platforms and access equipment safely and only where trained, licensed or authorised. Identify hazards, report incidents and defects, protect completed work and maintain clean, secure work areas. Coordinate constructively with supervisors, clients, builders, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors and other trades to resolve installation and access issues.

Check completed work against drawings, specifications, relevant standards, manufacturer instructions and CAPEX quality expectations, and rectify identified defects. Provide practical guidance to apprentices and trade assistants when directed, while retaining responsibility for the quality and safety of assigned work. Qualification &

experience A recognised trade qualification in air conditioning and refrigeration, refrigeration mechanics or an equivalent overseas qualification accepted for the role and visa pathway.

Demonstrated experience installing, commissioning, servicing and repairing commercial and domestic airconditioning and refrigeration systems. Current refrigerant handling authorisation and relevant Australian occupational licences, or the ability to obtain all required licences and registrations before undertaking regulated work unsupervised. Construction Industry White Card, or ability to obtain one before attending construction sites.

Current driver’s licence valid for work-related travel in Australia. Electrical disconnect and reconnect authority or other restricted electrical licence where required for assigned duties, or the ability to obtain the appropriate authority. Working at Heights and Elevated
