Position Details

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated First Nations Educator to join our school community. The role is integral to supporting student learning and wellbeing while fostering cultural engagement across the school community.

St Brigid's Primary School is a vibrant double-stream Catholic primary school serving approximately 470 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6. We are committed to fostering the academic, social and spiritual growth of every child through a collaborative, child-centred approach to learning and wellbeing.

Our staff staff work together to deliver high-quality, evidence-based instruction, supported by programmes including Talk for Writing, InitiaLit, MiniLit, MacqLit and Spelling Mastery. Students participate in specialist learning programs in Auslan, Science, Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), and Music from Pre-Primary to Year 6.

Selection Criteria

Demonstrate a commitment to supporting the mission, values and ethos of Catholic Education.

- Demonstrated understanding of First Nations cultures, communities, and perspectives, with the ability to support and promote cultural identity, inclusion, and belonging for First Nations students.
- Ability to build positive and respectful relationships with First Nations students and their families, fostering trust and supporting effective home-school partnerships through culturally responsive communication practices.
- Experience supporting the academic, social, emotional, spiritual, and cultural wellbeing of children, including the provision of individual and small-group learning support.
- Capacity to work collaboratively with teachers to support student learning, including literacy and numeracy development, differentiated learning, and appropriate adjustments to meet student needs.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive practices and First Nations pedagogies, with the ability to assist staff in embedding authentic local First Nations perspectives across the curriculum.
- Demonstrated ability to support student engagement, attendance, and wellbeing, including the use of culturally informed strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Capacity to contribute to a culturally inclusive school environment, including supporting cultural events, celebrations, acknowledgements, and initiatives that strengthen understanding and respect for First Nations peoples and cultures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships with First Nations community members, Elders, and organisations, acting as a cultural bridge between the school and the wider community.
- Current knowledge of local First Nations communities, language, cultural protocols, and traditions relevant to the school context (desirable)
