About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Director to lead a significant digital transformation and modernisation initiative within a complex public sector environment. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and end-to-end delivery oversight for a major transformation program involving the modernisation of business systems, technology platforms, operational processes and service delivery capabilities. Working closely with senior executives, business stakeholders, technology teams and delivery partners, the Project Director will be responsible for establishing effective governance, managing delivery risks and dependencies, and ensuring the program achieves its intended business and operational outcomes. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an individual with a strong track record of delivering complex ICT programs, leading multidisciplinary teams and driving sustainable business transformation.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide strategic leadership and end-to-end accountability for the planning, delivery and implementation of major digital transformation initiatives.
- Lead the modernisation of legacy business systems, technology platforms and supporting operational environments.
- Establish and maintain robust program governance, assurance, risk management and executive reporting frameworks.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams spanning business, technology, data, policy, service delivery, organisational change and operations.
- Manage senior stakeholder relationships, including executive leadership, steering committees, business owners, delivery partners and external service providers.
- Oversee program planning, schedules, budgets, resources, dependencies, milestones and delivery performance.
- Apply appropriate delivery methodologies, including program and project management, agile practices and product-oriented delivery approaches.
- Manage technology implementation, data migration, system integration, cyber security, privacy, service transition and operational readiness.
- Drive business transformation, process improvement, operating model changes, organisational change and benefits realisation.
- Identify and resolve complex delivery issues,



negotiate competing priorities and maintain momentum across multiple workstreams.
- Ensure quality outcomes, business continuity and effective transition from legacy environments to modern platforms.
- Build internal capability through knowledge transfer, stakeholder collaboration and sustainable delivery practices. Highly Desirable Criteria
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale digital transformation or ICT modernisation programs within government or similarly complex organisations.
- Experience delivering major business system replacement, legacy modernisation, enterprise platform implementation or service transformation initiatives.
- Proven ability to manage complex programs involving multiple workstreams, technology domains and stakeholder groups.
- Experience engaging with senior executives, governance committees and other high-level decision-makers.
- Demonstrated success in managing significant program risks, dependencies, budgets, schedules and delivery outcomes.
- Experience overseeing data migration, systems integration, service transition and operational readiness.
- Familiarity with public sector governance, assurance, procurement and accountability requirements. Desirable Criteria
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Business, Project Management, Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional certifications in program or project management, such as MSP, PRINCE2 or PMP.
- Agile, Scrum, product management or scaled agile delivery certifications.
- Experience with organisational change management and benefits realisation frameworks.
- Experience working with enterprise architecture, cloud platforms, cyber security and data governance.
- Experience transferring capability and knowledge to internal teams to support long-term operational sustainability. Skills and Experience The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
