Role: Senior VMware Engineer
Mandatory: Active Security Clearance
Start Date: November 2026
Location: Sydney
Role summary A Senior VMware Engineer in Sydney to join the delivery team building a new VMware Cloud Foundation platform and migrating the workloads onto it.
This is a hands-on technical role, not task management: the engineer works independently from the high-level design to build, configure, test and troubleshoot.
Key responsibilities
- Work with the team to build, configure and validate the VCF 9 Staging, DR and Production environments to the high-level design.
- Carry out the NSX network cutover for the migration: tier-0 and tier-1 gateways, BGP between the existing and recent environments, per-segment gateway moves and tested rollback.
- Migrate workloads with HCX: VM preparation, change-window execution and post-migration checks.
- Configure and test DR, including NSX Federation and failover and failback tests.
- Hand the platform over to the support team: as-built records, runbooks and knowledge transfer.
Requirements
- 5+ years hands-on with VMware vSphere, vCenter and ESXi in production.
- Hands-on VMware NSX, including routing (tier-0 and tier-1 gateways, BGP) and firewall policy.
- Scripting or automation experience, in any common language or tool.
- Strong troubleshooting across compute, storage and network, including VLANs and routing.
- Works independently from a high-level design to a working configuration, with minimal supervision.
- Experience delivering changes under formal change control in the enterprise environment.
- Australian citizen with a current AGSVA Baseline clearance, or able to obtain one.
- Able to work on site in Sydney and after hours for change windows.
Desirable: VMware Cloud Foundation, SDDC Manager, vSAN, NSX-T, NSX Federation, HCX, VCF Operations / Aria Operations, PowerCLI; VMware certification (VCP-DCV, VCP-NV or VCP-VCF).
