The role provides professional customs and trade compliance advice, prepares and lodges customs declarations, manages regulatory requirements and supports customers and internal stakeholders with classification, valuation, origin, duty and import requirements. The Customs Broker contributes to service quality, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, financial accuracy and customer retention.

Key Responsibilities
Customs Clearance & Technical Compliance
- Prepare, review and lodge import and export declarations accurately and within required timeframes
- Classify goods correctly under the Australian Customs Tariff and maintain appropriate supporting records
- Determine customs value, origin, duty, GST, concessions and applicable Free Trade Agreement treatment
- Assess permit, biosecurity and other regulatory requirements and coordinate referrals to relevant authorities
- Provide customs advice within the scope of the role, licence, legislation and JAS procedures
- Monitor customs clearance status, holds and examinations and take timely action to support cargo release




- Maintain current knowledge of customs, trade and biosecurity requirements relevant to JAS operations and customers
- Escalate complex, uncertain or high-risk matters to the Branch Manager, senior customs resource, Compliance or Legal as appropriate Customer Service & Stakeholder Management
- Provide responsive, practical and professional customs advice to customers and internal stakeholders
- Explain customs requirements, information gaps, risks and possible clearance pathways clearly
- Manage customs-related customer enquiries and escalations within agreed service expectations
- Participate in customer meetings, implementation activities and compliance reviews where required
- Maintain qualified working relationships with customers, government authorities, service providers and JAS colleagues
- Identify service risks and opportunities and communicate these to the Branch Manager, Sales or Account Management teams Skills & Experience
- Current Australian Customs Broker Licence or eligibility to perform the inherent requirements of the role
- Demonstrated customs broking experience across import and, where applicable, export transactions
- Strong working knowledge of tariff classification, customs valuation, rules of origin, concessions, Free Trade Agreements, GST and import requirements
- Experience dealing with Australian Border Force, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and other relevant authorities
- High attention to detail, sound judgement and strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- Ability to explain complex customs matters clearly and manage competing deadlines
- Strong customer service, stakeholder management and written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in CargoWise, Microsoft Office, the Integrated Cargo System and relevant regulatory platforms
