We are driven by our commitment to knowing, nurturing and challenging every member of our community. Guided by our values of courage, integrity, inclusivity, and a steadfast focus on the future, we aim to achieve extraordinary outcomes for our diverse student population.
About the role
We are seeking enthusiastic, capable and safety-focused individuals for multiple casual opportunities as Assistant Instructors and Activity Instructors to support the delivery of our Outdoor Education programs and camps. We are looking for casual staff who can support a 12-day Outdoor Education program, with approximately three to four programs delivered each year. In 2027, these programs are scheduled to operate in May, June and September. Additional opportunities may also be available to work across other Outdoor Education camps and experiences throughout the year. These roles provide an exciting chance to work with school-aged students in outdoor environments, supporting their personal development, resilience, confidence and teamwork through meaningful outdoor learning experiences. Programs involve travel to off-site and rural locations, overnight stays and participation in practical camp activities.
Key responsibilities
Assistant Instructors play an important role in supporting the smooth delivery of camps and programs. Working alongside Lead Instructors, Activity Instructors and teachers, responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the preparation, set-up and pack-up of outdoor activities, equipment and camp facilities.
- Supporting student supervision, group movements and daily camp routines, encouraging safe participation, positive behaviour and inclusion.
- Assisting with practical camp operations, including equipment management, meal-time support, camp cooking facilities and activity transitions.
- Monitoring student wellbeing and escalating safety, behavioural or participation concerns to the appropriate staff.
- Contributing to a positive and well-organised camp environment that encourages student confidence, resilience and teamwork.
This role would suit individuals with a genuine interest in Outdoor Education who are undertaking related study or working towards relevant activity-specific qualifications. Activity Instructors focus on the safe and effective delivery of specific Outdoor Education activities, such as rock climbing and bushwalking, drawing on their relevant qualifications, technical skills and experience. Responsibilities include:
- Delivering approved outdoor activities and providing instruction, demonstrations and guidance to students.
- Applying activity-specific safety procedures, risk controls and appropriate supervision practices.
- Supporting Lead Instructors with activity planning, program delivery and student management.
- Monitoring student participation, wellbeing and safety, adapting instruction to suit students' needs and abilities.
- Providing day-to-day direction to Assistant Instructors where required and supporting equipment care, maintenance and camp operations.
- Identifying hazards, responding appropriately to changing outdoor conditions and promptly escalating safety or wellbeing concerns. Relevant activity-specific qualifications and demonstrated competency are essential for Activity Instructors. Top-rope climbing qualifications, relevant bushwalking qualifications, Wilderness First Aid certification (SISOFLD004), defensive driving training and a Light Rigid (LR) bus licence are highly desirable.
