Sydney CBD | Hybrid working | Secondments considered | NSW State Government Your new company An excellent opportunity has arisen for two Senior Legal Officers to join the established legal team of a NSW Government statutory organisation for a 12-month period. Working within a highly collaborative in-house legal function, you will provide practical legal advice across the organisation, with a particular focus on administrative law, statutory interpretation and the application of legislation in an operational environment. The organisation has recently undergone legislative reform, creating interesting questions around how new and amended provisions should be interpreted and applied in practice. This is an opportunity to work on complex, meaningful matters within a unique regulatory environment. Your new role

Key responsibilities
include:
- Providing advice on administrative law and statutory interpretation
- Interpreting legislation and advising stakeholders on how legislative provisions apply in practice
- Advising on statutory powers, functions and obligations
- Providing practical advice to ensure operational activities are undertaken within the relevant legislative framework
- Undertaking legal research and analysis on complex and novel issues
- Preparing clear written advice, briefings, correspondence and submissions
- Working closely with senior lawyers and stakeholders across the organisation

What you'll need
to succeed
- Admitted to practice as a lawyer in NSW
- Approximately 3-4+ years' PAE




- Strong administrative law and statutory interpretation experience
- Excellent legal research, drafting and analytical skills
- Government, regulatory or statutory authority experience advantageous
- Private practice lawyers with relevant government advisory experience are also encouraged to apply Importantly, the client is open to experienced Legal Officers looking to step up into their first Senior Legal Officer role, as well as established Senior Legal Officers seeking development in a new department. Secondments from NSW Government agencies will also be considered, making this an excellent opportunity for government lawyers looking to gain experience within a different statutory and regulatory workplace.
