Lime Recruitment is currently working with a Queensland government client to recruit a Principal Technical Specialist. In this role, you will join the Cyber Security Program to play a key technical lead role in the deployment, upgrade, and management of enterprise firewall replacements (Checkpoint and Palo Alto) to enable enhanced digital health service delivery across Queensland.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead the end-to-end deployment, upgrade, and configuration of Check Point firewalls as the primary platform, while providing expert support for Palo Alto solutions, F5 (LTM/GTM/WAF), and transitioning new capability into operations.

- Support and optimise firewall environments across Check Point firewalls and Palo Alto Secure Web Gateway (SWG), ensuring alignment with security standards and enterprise service levels.

- Integrate firewall solutions using Cisco routing and switching to maintain seamless connectivity, high availability, and network security.

- Assist in orchestrating firewall rule bases and policy optimisation via the AlgoSec (NSPM) platform to ensure continuous compliance and governance.

- Monitor firewall performance and health using SolarWinds, proactively identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving complex technical issues.

- Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation including solution designs, ICT Change plans, implementation plans, testing, and configuration artefacts.

- Provide advanced tier-3 troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technical leadership to project teams, operational units, and external suppliers.





- Contribute to the evolution of the firewall and network security strategy by researching and advising on emerging technologies and best practices.

About You

- Extensive hands-on technical experience with Check Point firewall technologies (build, replacement, upgrades, SmartConsole, troubleshooting, and policy optimisation).

- Practical expertise in Palo Alto capabilities, Secure Web Gateway (SWG), and policy management in enterprise deployments.

- Strong background in Cisco routing and switching, specifically relating to firewall integration and enterprise network security.

- Demonstrated experience with rulebase management, policy orchestration, and compliance using AlgoSec (or equivalent NSPM tools).

- Proficiency with SolarWinds or similar enterprise monitoring platforms for firewall health monitoring and performance reporting.

- Proven experience with F5 GTM, LTM, and WAF solutions, as well as gateway/proxy security technologies.

- Demonstrated ability to quickly apply ITIL Service Management processes (incident, problem, change, and configuration management via ServiceNow).

- Robust analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills to lead technical direction and collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams.
