Love getting into the numbers, but even more interested in what they actually mean for a business?
Overstory is growing, and we're looking for a Commercial Analyst who can turn data into meaningful insights, work alongside our business leaders and help shape the decisions driving our next stage of growth.
This is a newly created position with the prospect to make a genuine impact across a diverse group of wine, hospitality, and agricultural businesses.
This is a permanent, full-time role, on a hybrid basis from Subiaco.
Ideally, we'd love to have someone on board before Christmas, but we're equally happy to welcome the right person in the new year if a January 2027 start works better for you.
What’s In It For You
There's a lot happening at Overstory, and it's an exciting time to be part of it. With a growing collection of businesses across wine, hospitality, and agriculture, Overstory offers the opportunity to be part of something a little different from your typical corporate environment.
- Be part of a growing group of distinctive wine and hospitality brands across Western Australia and Tasmania.
- Join a business that genuinely values sustainability, quality and creating memorable experiences.
- Work alongside passionate people who care about the products, places and experiences they create.
- Experience the variety of working within a business that spans vineyards, wineries, restaurants and more.
- Join Overstory at an exciting stage of growth, with new venues, evolving operations and plenty happening across the group.
About the Role
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Commercial Analyst will help Overstory's business leaders better understand their numbers, identify commercial opportunities and make informed decisions.
You'll be trusted to manage your own workload, build relationships across the business and take ownership of delivering the insights our teams need. We're looking to move beyond retrospective monthly reporting and give our teams greater visibility of performance throughout the month.
The Commercial Analyst will:
- Partner with venue managers, sales teams and business leaders to analyse performance,
identify opportunities and improve commercial outcomes
- Prepare daily and monthly performance reporting, including meaningful insights and recommendations
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and financial models to improve visibility of sales, margins, labour costs and business performance
- Support budgeting, forecasting, pricing and scenario analysis across the group
- Analyse inventory and sales data to support wine production, purchasing and allocation decisions
- Review the financial implications of commercial agreements and business decisions
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting, systems and processes across the business
About You
You're someone who enjoys getting into the detail, but knows that the real value comes from what you do with the information.
You're naturally curious, commercially minded and confident working with people across different areas of a business. You don't just wait for someone to ask for a report - you're proactive in identifying opportunities, asking questions and finding ways to help the business make better decisions.
You're comfortable working autonomously, taking ownership of your work and managing competing priorities without needing someone looking over your shoulder. You'll have the confidence to back your recommendations, but also the ability to communicate them in a way that makes sense to people who don't work in finance.
You'll bring:
- At least three years' experience in commercial, financial or business analysis
- Strong Power BI, Excel and financial modelling capabilities, including experience developing dashboards and interpreting data
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting across multiple business units or locations
- A demonstrated ability to translate financial analysis into practical commercial recommendations
- The confidence to build relationships with operational leaders, ask questions and communicate commercial insights in a way that influences decisions
- A proactive, self-directed approach, with the ability to take ownership of your work and follow through without constant supervision
- The ability to adapt to changing priorities, manage competing demands and maintain momentum in a fast-moving business
Experience in wine, hospitality, retail, FMCG or a similar industry will be highly regarded, as will familiarity with Microsoft Business Central or comparable ERP systems.
Most importantly, we want someone who is genuinely interested in the businesses behind the numbers and excited by the opportunity to contribute to Overstory's future, and aligns with our sustainability focus and commitment to working in an eco-conscious organisation.
