Full-Time Teacher

Hensman Street Elementary | South Perth

Hensman Street Elementary (HSE) is seeking an enthusiastic, creative and relational Full-Time Teacher to join our small and innovative learning community.

We are looking for an educator who understands that children learn in different ways, at different rates and through different pathways. The successful applicant will have experience working with neurodivergent children and a solid understanding of play-based, inquiry-led and child-centred learning.

At HSE, relationships come first. We are looking for a teacher who takes the time to know each child, understands that behaviour is communication, and can create an environment where children feel safe, connected and ready to learn.

About the Role

This is an opportunity to teach differently. We are looking for a teacher who sees the child before the curriculum, an educator who can balance intentional teaching with genuine responsiveness to children. You will be comfortable with learning that can be messy, creative and unexpected.

Our small, multi-age learning environment allows teachers to move beyond a traditional whole-class model and create meaningful learning experiences that respond to children's interests, strengths, needs and curiosity.

The successful teacher will work collaboratively with our team to plan and deliver engaging learning experiences that meet curriculum requirements while maintaining the flexibility, creativity and responsiveness that are central to HSE.

The role will include:

- Planning and delivering engaging play-based and inquiry-led learning experiences.

- Creating meaningful connections between children's interests and curriculum outcomes.

- Working effectively within a multi-age learning environment.

- Supporting neurodivergent students through strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming practice.

- Differentiating learning to meet a wide range of academic, developmental, social and emotional needs.

- Developing strong, respectful and trusting relationships with children.

- Creating learning environments that support regulation, independence, curiosity and belonging.

- Using observation, assessment and documentation to understand children's learning and inform future planning.

- Contributing to individual learning and support planning where required.

- Working collaboratively with Education Assistants, teachers, families and external professionals.

- Participating in HSE's place-based, outdoor and offsite learning experiences.

- Contributing ideas, initiative and creativity to our broader school program and community.

You will ideally have:

- Current teacher registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA).

- Experience working with neurodivergent children, including students with diverse communication, sensory, regulation and learning needs.

- A solid understanding of neurodiversity-affirming practice.

- Experience with, or a genuine commitment to, play-based and inquiry-led learning.

- An understanding of differentiation and inclusive education.

- Strong relationship-building skills.

- The ability to create calm, predictable and emotionally safe learning environments.

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

- Confidence working closely with families.

- Flexibility, creativity and initiative.

- A willingness to reflect on your practice, try new approaches and continue learning.

Experience with Autism, ADHD, PDA profiles, anxiety, regulation differences, trauma-aware practice or other diverse learning needs would be highly regarded.

The successful applicant will be required to meet all relevant registration, screening and child-safety requirements for employment within a Western Australian school.

How to Apply

Please provide a cover letter and current CV outlining your experience and your approach to teaching.

We would particularly like to hear about:

- your experience supporting neurodivergent students;
