Job Description – Hostel Housekeeper

Position: Hostel Housekeeper
Location: Perth, Western Australia
Employment Type: Casual / Part-Time
Reports To: Hostel Manager / Supervisor

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking and detail-oriented Housekeeper to join our hostel team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene and presentation standards throughout the hostel. This includes guest rooms, shared bathrooms, kitchens, common areas and other facilities.

As a hostel housekeeper, you will play an important role in providing guests with a clean, comfortable and welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Guest Rooms and Bed Preparation

- Clean and prepare guest rooms and dormitories according to hostel standards.
- Check mattresses, bed frames and furniture for cleanliness and damage.
- Report any lost property, damage or maintenance issues to management.

2. Bathrooms and Toilets

- Clean and sanitise toilets, showers, sinks, mirrors and bathroom surfaces.
- Refill toilet paper, hand soap and other bathroom supplies.
- Remove rubbish and maintain hygiene standards.
- Regularly inspect shared bathrooms throughout the shift.

3. Common Areas

- Clean dining areas, lounges, corridors, staircases and other shared facilities.
- Empty rubbish bins and separate recyclable materials.
- Maintain clean and organised common areas throughout the day.

4. Laundry and Cleaning Supplies

- Monitor cleaning products, linen and other housekeeping supplies.
- Inform the manager when supplies need replenishment.
- Store cleaning chemicals and equipment safely.

5. General Housekeeping and Maintenance

- Follow daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules.
- Complete assigned deep-cleaning tasks.
- Identify and report damaged furniture, leaking taps,



blocked drains and other maintenance issues.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures when handling cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Assist with additional housekeeping duties when required.

6. Teamwork and Guest Service

- Communicate effectively with reception and management regarding room readiness.
- Work efficiently to ensure rooms are prepared before guest check-in.
- Respond politely to guest enquiries and requests.
- Respect guests' privacy and personal belongings.
- Support other team members during busy periods.

Skills and Requirements

- Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience is preferred.
- preferred Bhutanese spoken.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Reliable, punctual and responsible.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks within scheduled times.
- Basic English communication skills.
- Comfortable performing physical duties, including standing, bending, making beds and moving cleaning equipment.
- Availability to work weekends and public holidays when required.
- Must have valid working rights in Australia.

Pay: $26.44 – $35.00 per hour
