Spudbar
South Yarra
We need someone who can help make SpudBAR culturally relevant again.
Despite being over 25 years old, the brand remains a massively underrated player in Australia's fast casual dining landscape. And with the loaded spud finally having its moment in the sun overseas, we reckon our time is coming.
The food has a lot going for it. It's delicious, ridiculously versatile (light and lean or fully loaded), exceptional value for money, and sits head and shoulders above most fast food on the nutritional front.
But there's a problem.
Our fiercely loyal fan base is of a certain vintage (they grew up downloading music with bonus viruses via LimeWire), and our Head of Brand just turned 40.
So, in short, we need help. Not with spreadsheets or strategy decks.
We need someone who can make people aware that SpudBAR exists. And actually want to try it.
*****
The Role (Part 1 - Make Stuff)
You'll create content that makes people stop scrolling, laugh, get hungry or, ideally, all three.
Think in-store antics, street interviews, new product launches, trend jumping, behind-the-scenes chaos and general internet nonsense.
Primarily for TikTok and Instagram.
You should be comfortable:
- Filming in public
- Talking to strangers
- Being in front of (and behind) the camera
- Shooting and editing videos on your phone
- Coming up with ideas quickly
- Posting things that aren't perfect
- Making fun of the brand
- Making fun of yourself
We don't need everything to look like a television commercial. In fact, we'd prefer it didn't.
*****
The Role (Part 2 - Find Our People)
We don't just want to make content ourselves. We want other people talking about SpudBAR too.
You'll help build and manage our network of content creators, making sure there's a steady stream of fresh faces, new perspectives and genuinely valuable content coming out of our stores.
Your job will include:
- Finding creators who genuinely connect with the audiences we're trying to reach
- Building and maintaining target lists of creators worth working with
- Reaching out, building relationships and coordinating store visits
- Briefing creators without sucking all the creativity out of their content
- Managing the logistics, from free spuds to filming dates and deliverables
- Keeping track of what's been posted, what's working and who's worth inviting back
- Making sure there's always creator content in the pipeline
The goal is simple: make SpudBAR feel like a brand that's constantly showing up in people's feeds, even when we're not the ones posting.
We want to be always on, not just popping up when we've got something to sell.
*****
The Role (Part 3 – Run Our Socials)
You'll also help keep our social channels alive day to day.
That means:
- Posting content across TikTok and Instagram
- Replying to comments and messages
- Reposting customer content
- Commenting on tagged posts
- Finding opportunities to turn customer conversations into content
- Jumping into relevant conversations and trends
- Making sure our community feels like there's an actual human behind the account
Basically, being the person who actually lives on the internet.
*****
The Role (Part 4 – Possibly Your Most Important Job)
You are also the official SpudBAR Idea Filter.
Your job is to tell us:
- Is this funny or is this tragic?
- Is this cool or is this lame?
- Would anyone actually share this?
- Are we trying too hard?
- Should we absolutely not post this?
- Are we using words that only people over 35 use?
We need someone who's comfortable telling us when an idea is terrible. Especially when we think it's brilliant.
You are the filter. This may genuinely be the most important part of the job.

About You
You're probably:
- At uni, recently graduated or just getting started in your creative career
- On TikTok way too much
- The person who knows about trends before brands ruin them
- Comfortable on camera
- Creative, curious and full of ideas
- A bit chaotic (in a good way)
- Good with your phone
- Into food and internet culture
- Good at finding interesting people and convincing them to do things
- Organised enough to juggle creators, shoots and content deadlines
- Not overly polished
- Not looking to become a LinkedIn thought leader
You don't need a marketing degree. You don't need agency experience. And you definitely don't need 50,000 followers.
Follower count doesn't matter. Personality, creativity and initiative do.
