About us

Located in Canberra’s Realm Precinct, Maple and Clove is a cafe serving fresh, nourishing meals made with seasonal and whole food ingredients. We specialise in breakfast and lunch, with food prepared on the premises daily.

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Chef who enjoys creating quality food and working collaboratively in a busy kitchen.

Key responsibilities

- Plan and organise the preparation and cooking of breakfast and lunch dishes using fresh, seasonal and wholefood ingredients.
- Develop menus and seasonal specials, estimate food and labour costs, and order food supplies.
- Prepare and cook meals, accommodating customers’ dietary requirements and managing allergens.
- Monitor food quality throughout preparation, cooking and presentation, ensuring consistent taste, portion sizes and appearance.
- Discuss menu requirements, food preparation issues and service priorities with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house staff.
- Demonstrate cooking techniques and guide kitchen staff on preparation methods and cooking procedures.




- Explain and enforce food safety and hygiene requirements, including safe handling, storage and cleaning practices.
- Manage stock rotation, monitor inventory and minimise food waste.
- Assist with selecting and training kitchen staff and coordinate daily preparation and service tasks.
- Ensure food is appropriately stored, chilled, frozen or preserved to maintain quality and safety.

About you

- Relevant commercial cookery qualifications and demonstrated experience as a Chef.
- At least 2 - 3 years of Full time experience.
- An interest in fresh, seasonal ingredients and whole food cooking.
- Strong organisation, communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain quality and efficiency during busy service periods.
- Sound knowledge of food safety and allergen management.
- Availability to work a roster that includes weekends.
- Appropriate Australian work rights.
