Fleet Fitout is a growing Sydney-based commercial vehicle fitout business specialising in custom vehicle storage, fabrication, accessories and fitout solutions for work vans, utes and commercial fleets.
Our services include aluminium ute trays, canopies, service bodies, van shelving, drawer systems, roof racks, toolboxes and automotive electrical accessories.
We are seeking an experienced Vehicle Body Builder / Coachbuilder with automotive electrical experience to join our team.
This is a hands-on position suited to a skilled tradesperson who can confidently fabricate, assemble, modify and install commercial vehicle fitouts while also carrying out automotive electrical installations.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate, assemble and install vehicle bodies, aluminium ute trays, canopies and service bodies.
- Install commercial van shelving, drawer systems, toolboxes and custom storage solutions.
- Carry out vehicle body modifications, assembly and general coachbuilding work.
- Perform MIG/TIG welding, metal cutting, drilling, grinding and fabrication.
- Read technical drawings, measure accurately and manufacture components to specification.
- Install 12V automotive electrical systems, including LED work lights, light bars, switches and wiring.
- Install and connect dual battery systems, auxiliary electrical accessories and vehicle-mounted equipment.
- Carry out basic automotive electrical testing, troubleshooting and fault finding.
- Fit roof racks, ladder racks, tow bars and other commercial vehicle accessories.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety and quality control.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Vehicle Body Builder, Coachbuilder, Vehicle Fabricator or similar trade.
- Practical experience with automotive electrical wiring and 12V systems.
- Solid metal fabrication and welding skills.
- Experience working with aluminium and steel.
- Ability to use fabrication equipment, power tools and measuring instruments.
- Experience fitting vehicle accessories and commercial vehicle equipment.
- Ability to work independently and solve technical problems.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Valid Australian driver's licence.
Highly Regarded
- Trade qualification in Vehicle Body Building, Coachbuilding, Fabrication or Automotive Electrical.
- Experience manufacturing or installing aluminium ute trays, canopies and service bodies.
- Experience with commercial van and ute fitouts.
- Experience installing dual battery systems, electrical accessories and LED lighting.
- Experience with CNC cutting, sheet metal fabrication or press brake machinery.
- Ability to work across both mechanical fabrication and electrical installation tasks.
