About us

Outlook Australia’s vision is to create an inclusive society for all. We are a thriving, sustainable organisation dedicated to promoting the empowerment of people with disabilities and those experiencing disadvantage. We operate through two key divisions: Community Services, which provides life skills, in-home care, and community access support, and Social Enterprise, which creates employment opportunities for people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

About the role:

As a Disability Support Worker, you will provide individualised support to people with complex needs, assisting them to participate in daily activities, develop independence and achieve their personal goals.

You will be required to follow individual support plans, implement positive behaviour strategies and respond appropriately to behaviours of concern, including physical aggression. Maintaining a safe, respectful and supportive environment is essential.

We are looking for an experienced, reliable and confident Disability Support Worker with a strong understanding of behaviours of concern, including physical aggression, and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).

The successful candidate will be comfortable supporting individuals with complex support needs and responding to challenging situations in a calm, safe and professional manner.

Key responsibilities:

- Supporting people with community access, social engagement, and daily routines.
- Providing in-home support such as personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, and companionship.
- Assisting with overnight respite care, including active or sleepover shifts, maintaining a secure and supportive environment throughout the night.
- Managing mobility needs, medication administration, and transport assistance.
- Responding to behaviours of concern with empathy and professionalism.
- Accurately completing documentation using basic computer systems.

What we are looking for:

- Extensive experience supporting individuals with complex behaviours and support needs.
- Experience supporting individuals who may display physical aggression and other behaviours of concern.
- Strong understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and person-centred approaches.
- Ability to remain calm, patient and confident when responding to escalated behaviours.
- Experience implementing behaviour support plans and following risk management strategies.
- Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Professional, reliable and committed to providing high-quality support.
- Ability to build positive relationships while promoting independence, dignity and choice.
- Strong awareness of workplace safety, risk management and appropriate responses to behaviours of concern.
