About Us

Common Ground Coffee & Kitchen is an established café and dining venue located in Westfield Hurstville. We offer a diverse menu of freshly prepared breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes, with a focus on quality ingredients, food presentation and an enjoyable dine-in experience.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join our kitchen team. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of meals to order, maintaining consistent food quality and supporting the smooth operation of our busy commercial kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare, season and cook a variety of breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes in accordance with menu specifications and established recipes.

- Prepare ingredients, including cutting, marinating, portioning and organising food for daily service.

- Cook meals to order using commercial kitchen equipment, including grills, ovens and stovetops.

- Monitor cooking times, temperatures, portion sizes and presentation to maintain consistent food quality.

- Coordinate with kitchen staff and front-of-house waitstaff to ensure meals are prepared and served efficiently.

- Assist with the preparation of daily specials and contribute to menu improvements.

- Monitor food supplies, stock levels and ingredient quality, and assist with ordering as required.

- Maintain appropriate food storage, stock rotation and portion control procedures to minimise wastage.

- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, sanitation and workplace health and safety requirements.

- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of cooking stations, kitchen equipment and food preparation areas.

- Assist with training and guiding junior kitchen staff in food preparation and cooking procedures.





- Support efficient kitchen operations during busy dining periods while maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

The successful applicant will possess:

- A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen environment.

- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent relevant qualification (preferred).

- Demonstrated experience preparing and cooking a variety of freshly made meals.

- Sound knowledge of commercial cooking methods, food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.

- Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and safe food handling practices.

- Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen while maintaining consistent food quality.

- Strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills.

- Ability to coordinate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house staff.

- Flexibility to work on a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays as required.

- Competitive salary of $75,000 – $85,000 per annum plus superannuation, depending on qualifications and experience.
