Take ownership of estimating and help grow our electrical business

JD Lighting Electrical is seeking an experienced, commercially minded Electrical Estimator to help win and deliver profitable residential and commercial projects across Brisbane.

This is a hands-on role combining accurate estimating with site visits, client meetings and business development. You’ll be involved in opportunities from the initial enquiry through to quotation, follow-up, negotiation and project handover.

About the Role

Working closely with management and our electrical team, you’ll take ownership of the estimating process and help develop a strong pipeline of work.

Estimating & Tendering

- Review electrical drawings, specifications and project documentation.

- Complete accurate material take-offs and labour estimates.

- Prepare detailed quotations and competitive tender submissions.

- Obtain and negotiate supplier and subcontractor pricing.

- Allow for project costs, margins, contingencies and risks.

- Clearly document scope, exclusions and assumptions, and identify practical cost savings.

- Maintain accurate estimating records and current pricing information.

Customer Relationships & Business Development

You’ll be involved in:

- Following up quotations and tenders to help convert opportunities into confirmed projects.

- Building relationships with builders, developers, contractors and customers.

- Identifying new project opportunities and developing repeat business.

- Attending site inspections, client meetings and project discussions.

- Recommending practical,



cost-effective solutions that meet customer requirements.

- Negotiating scope and pricing while protecting project profitability.

Project Handover & Commercial Support

- Work with management and the electrical team to ensure projects are accurately scoped and priced.

- Provide clear handovers covering the agreed scope, pricing allowances and key risks.

- Assist with pricing variations and clarifying project requirements.

- Help improve estimating systems, processes and efficiency.

About You

You’re an experienced estimator who can work independently, communicate confidently and take responsibility for both the accuracy of your estimates and the follow-through required to win work.

You’ll bring:

- Proven experience estimating residential and commercial electrical projects.

- A strong understanding of electrical installations, materials, labour requirements and construction methods.

- The ability to interpret drawings, plans and specifications.

- Experience independently preparing quotations, cost estimates and tenders.

- Sound commercial judgement and a clear understanding of project profitability.

- Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.

- Confidence dealing directly with builders, contractors, suppliers and customers.

- A proactive approach to following up opportunities and securing work.

- Strong organisation, accuracy and attention to detail.





- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and relevant estimating software.

- A current driver’s licence and willingness to attend site meetings and inspections.

Highly regarded:

- Electrical trade qualifications or an electrical contracting background.

- Experience in electrical project management or construction.

- Established relationships within Brisbane’s building and construction industry.

- A track record of winning profitable projects.

- Experience using Simpro for estimating, quoting and project management.
