Our firm is committed to providing strategic, client-focused representation across all areas of criminal law.The RoleWe are seeking a motivated and capable Criminal Defence Lawyer with experience in ACT criminal procedure.
The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload and regularly appear in court.Key ResponsibilitiesAppear in the ACT Magistrates Court for mentions, pre-hearing mentions, bail applications, sentencing and defended hearings.Manage criminal files from commencement to resolutionDraft court documents, submissions, and correspondenceInstruct counsel in Supreme Court trials and run non-complex hearingsProvide clear,
practical legal advice to clientsEngage in negotiations with prosecutorsEssential CriteriaAdmitted as a legal practitioner in the ACT (or eligible for admission)Experience appearing in the Magistrates CourtDemonstrated experience in bail applications, sentencing, defended hearings.Ability to conduct bail applications, sentencing and defended hearings independently without supervisionStrong advocacy and courtroom skillsAbility to manage files independentlyExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong organisational skills and attention to detailDesirable2+ years PAE in criminal law (preferred but not essential for the right candidate)Experience instructing counsel in trial mattersFamiliarity with ACT criminal procedure and evidence lawWhat We OfferSupportive and collaborative team environmentHigh-quality criminal law workCompetitive salary commensurate with experienceOpportunities for advocacy and career development
