About the role

Underwood Family Doctors is seeking an experienced medical receptionist who can confidently manage a busy reception desk and help maintain an effective, welcoming environment for patients and staff. This role suits someone with strong general practice experience, sound judgement and a proactive approach, who works well independently and as part of a team.

Key responsibilities

- Welcome patients and respond to telephone and in-person enquiries professionally and empathetically.
- Manage appointments, patient registrations and day-to-day reception administration.
- Process Medicare claims, private billing and payments accurately, and follow up billing queries.
- Liaise with doctors, nurses and other reception staff to support patient care and smooth practice operations.
- Handle patient concerns calmly and escalate matters appropriately.
- Support and guide less experienced reception staff.
- Maintain patient confidentiality, accurate records and an organised reception area.

About you

- At least two years' experience as a medical receptionist in general practice.




- Proficiency in Best Practice practice management software.
- Strong knowledge of Medicare billing, private billing and payment processing.
- Ability to prioritise competing tasks and work confidently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills and a professional, empathetic manner.
- Reliability, attention to detail and a collaborative approach.
- Competence with email, Microsoft Office and general computer tasks.
- Australian work rights.
