About the role

Third Rail Café is seeking a skilled, experienced and passionate Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. We operate a café with a commercial kitchen, table service and licensed alcohol service, providing customers with a quality dining experience.

Key responsibilities

- Plan, develop and prepare a variety of breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes

- Prepare and cook meals to a consistently high standard

- Assist with menu planning, seasonal menu changes and the introduction of new dishes

- Monitor food quality, presentation, portion control and consistency

- Manage kitchen stock, ingredient ordering and inventory control

- Monitor food costs, wastage and kitchen efficiency

- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements

- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen facilities and equipment

- Coordinate kitchen operations during busy service periods

- Train and supervise junior kitchen staff where required

About you

- Relevant commercial cookery qualifications or equivalent relevant professional experience





- Demonstrated experience working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen

- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations

- Experience preparing breakfast, brunch and contemporary café-style meals

- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements

- Strong organisational and time-management skills

- Ability to work effectively in a busy kitchen environment

- Good communication and teamwork skills

- Flexibility to work weekends and public holidays as required
