As a privately owned commercial airport, BIA has a strategic vision for sustainable growth and a strong focus on delivering safe, secure and efficient airport operations.
BIA is uniquely located in the heart of Broome, a vibrant town known for its famous Cable Beach, rich pearling history, multicultural community and relaxed lifestyle.
About the Position
BIA is seeking an experienced and capable Aerodrome Operations Manager to join its close-knit management team on a full-time, ongoing basis.
Reporting to the General Manager Operations, the Aerodrome Operations Manager leads the day-to-day delivery of secure, secure and compliant aerodrome and terminal operations. The position manages the Aerodrome Reporting Officer and Terminal Officer workforce and acts as the first operational escalation point for routine, shift-level and out-of-hours matters.
This is a hands-on working-manager role requiring a robust operational presence, sound judgement and the ability to lead a shift-based team in a regulated aviation environment. The successful applicant will maintain their operational competency and provide operational coverage where required, while remaining focused on the position’s primary management, compliance and leadership responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading, rostering and developing the Aerodrome Reporting Officer and Terminal Officer workforce.
- Coordinating aerodrome inspections,
technical inspections, NOTAMs, airside permits, operational records and compliance activities.
- Administering approved Method of Working Plans, Works Safety Officer arrangements and operational works controls.
- Managing operational hazards, incidents, corrective actions and routine investigations.
- Coordinating emergency preparedness, operational exercises and business continuity readiness.
- Implementing wildlife hazard management, environmental and biosecurity controls.
- Coordinating aviation security, airside access and routine interfaces with the aviation security screening contractor.
- Managing operational readiness for international arrivals, departures and diversions.
- Coordinating operational training, appointments, competency and currency requirements.
- Managing terminal readiness, passenger flow, baggage interfaces and routine stakeholder matters.
- Ensuring operational vehicles, radios, emergency equipment and inspection equipment remain serviceable and available.
- Maintaining effective working relationships with airlines, ground handlers, contractors, regulators, emergency services and other airport stakeholders.
The position includes participation in approved on-call and after-hours response arrangements.
About the Person We Seek
We are looking for an experienced aviation operations professional who can provide practical leadership while maintaining a strong focus on operational safety, aviation security, regulatory compliance and service continuity.
Just as importantly, we are seeking someone who will be a positive and committed member of BIA’s management team. The successful applicant will be a genuine team player who is hardworking, flexible and willing to contribute beyond the immediate boundaries of the role when circumstances require. They will value open communication, support their colleagues and take a practical, solutions-focused approach to getting the job done.
The role requires someone who can build and maintain strong working relationships across the airport community. You will be comfortable engaging professionally with employees, airlines, ground handlers, contractors, regulators, emergency services and other stakeholders, while representing BIA’s interests in a constructive and credible manner.
You will also be comfortable making operational decisions, managing competing priorities and providing clear direction during routine operations, disruptions and abnormal events.
The successful applicant will have:
- Demonstrated experience in aerodrome or airside operations within a regulated aviation environment.
- Experience leading a shift-based workforce, including rostering, performance management, training and competency.
- Strong working knowledge of CASR Part 139 and the Part 139 Manual of Standards.
- Sound working knowledge of the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004 and Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005, including airport security, access control, ASIC and VIC requiremen
