Senior Data Engineer | SQL Server DBA We are partnering with an established organisation to recruit an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join their technology team.

This is a hands-on senior role for someone with strong expertise across Microsoft SQL Server administration and development, enterprise data warehousing, ETL/SSIS and Power BI.
You'll take ownership of an existing data environment while contributing to future modernisation initiatives, including database upgrades and the evaluation of emerging Microsoft data technologies.
What You'll Be Doing

- Administer, maintain, secure and optimise Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Develop and optimise complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views and database objects.
- Design and maintain enterprise data warehouse solutions and dimensional data models.
- Build and support ETL/ELT pipelines, including advanced SSIS development.
- Develop and optimise Power BI semantic models, datasets, reports and dashboards.
- Support integrations across APIs, XML/JSON and enterprise business systems.
- Troubleshoot complex database, data warehouse and reporting issues.
- Support SQL Server upgrades, migrations and broader data-platform modernisation.
- Implement data security, governance, monitoring and quality controls.

The position covers the full data lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on hands-on database administration, performance optimisation and production support, rather than being purely a reporting or BI role.
What We're Looking For Ideally, you will bring 5+ years of experience as a Senior Data Engineer, Database Administrator, Data Warehouse Developer or in a similar technical role, with:





- SQL Server Administration: Strong hands-on experience with installation, configuration, maintenance, patching and production database management.
- Database Performance Tuning: Advanced experience with query optimisation, execution plans, indexing strategies, Query Store, DMVs and performance monitoring.
- Database Design & Data Warehousing: Experience with enterprise data warehouses, Kimball methodologies, star schemas and dimensional modelling.
- Advanced T-SQL Development: Expertise in complex stored procedures, functions, CTEs, window functions and other advanced SQL techniques.
- Database Migrations & Upgrades: Experience with SQL Server upgrades, migration planning, testing, deployment and rollback strategies.
- Automation & Monitoring: Practical experience with SQL Server Agent, SSIS, PowerShell, monitoring tools and automated maintenance.
- Power BI & Data Integration: Strong experience developing reporting solutions, data models and ETL/ELT integrations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent problem-solving, documentation and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data technologies, Snowflake or other contemporary data platforms will be highly regarded but is not essential.
