NATSIPCA is a national, community-controlled, not-for-profit, member-based organisation supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to access culturally safe and responsive Comfort Care on their terms. Comfort Care brings together mainstream palliative care with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural and spiritual ways.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced General Manager to strengthen NATSIPCA’s operations during this growth phase. This fractional role offers the opportunity to apply your leadership experience to meaningful, community-led work.

Reporting to the Management Committee through the Chair, you will turn agreed priorities into a manageable work plan. Your focus will be on building reliable operating systems so project leads have the support they need. The role works under Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural leadership, within committee-approved delegations.

Priorities will be agreed with the Chair to fit the one-day-per-week commitment, with meeting-related work included in that allocation. The Committee retains governance oversight, while project leads remain responsible for day-to-day project delivery.

Key responsibilities

- Planning and operations: Deliver a focused 90-day work plan, supported by documented processes that make work easier to hand over.
- Governance support: Provide concise committee reports on progress, finances, risks and decisions required, coordinating any action follow-up.
- Financial oversight: Work with finance support to monitor budgets, cash flow, funding obligations and compliance requirements.
- Project coordination:

Agree clear deliverables with project leads and service providers. Address issues early and keep work on track.
- Members and partnerships: Oversee member engagement and priority relationships. Assess new opportunities against NATSIPCA’s purpose and capacity.
- Cultural safety: Follow cultural guidance in all engagement, respecting consent and confidentiality.

About you

You are an experienced leader who knows how to make a small organisation work well. You exercise sound judgement and build the capability of those around you, without losing sight of what is achievable within limited resources.

Your experience will include:

- Leadership: Management or senior operational experience in a small association, not-for-profit, community-controlled organisation or comparable setting.
- Governance and finance: Experience reporting to a board or committee within explicit delegations, with sound financial literacy across budgets and restricted funding.
- Delivery: Improving systems and coordinating projects and service providers within limited resources.
- Cultural capability: Working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations, recognising community control, cultural authority and self-determination.
- Communication: The ability to write clear reports and work constructively with stakeholders. Confidence using everyday digital tools for remote collaboration.

Experience in membership organisations, grant-funded programs, health, palliative care or community services would be valued. Relevant qualifications or equivalent practical experience are welcomed.
