Role overview

The purpose of this role is to construct, install, and dismantle formwork structures used in concrete construction projects, ensuring all work is completed in accordance with project specifications, engineering drawings, and safety requirements. The Formwork Carpenter plays a key role in supporting the successful delivery of structural concrete works by maintaining high standards of workmanship, accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects.

Key responsibilities

- Interpret and apply construction drawings, specifications, and project plans to determine formwork requirements.
- Measure, mark, cut, assemble, and install timber, plywood, and proprietary formwork systems for concrete structures.
- Construct and position formwork for footings, columns, walls, beams, slabs,



and other structural concrete elements.
- Ensure formwork is accurately aligned, braced, and secured in accordance with engineering specifications and project requirements.
- Install temporary structures and supports required for concrete placement and structural stability.
- Dismantle and remove formwork after concrete curing while ensuring minimal damage to materials for reuse.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and carpentry equipment safely and effectively.
- Inspect completed formwork installations to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Coordinate with site supervisors, engineers, steel fixers, and concreters to support effective construction activities.

Qualifications and skills

- Certificate III in Carpentry, Certificate III in Formwork/Falsework, or an equivalent trade qualification relevant to carpentry and construction.
- Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience as a Formwork Carpenter in commercial, residential, or civil construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience in constructing, installing, and dismantling formwork for concrete structures.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Sound knowledge of formwork systems, concrete construction processes, and workplace health and safety requirements.
