About the Prospect
Are you an experienced Policy Officer looking to make a measurable impact on Australia’s pathway to Net Zero and cost-of-living relief?
We are seeking a proactive and analytical Policy Officer (APS6) to join a high-profile Federal Government branch overseeing national regulatory and energy efficiency frameworks. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering key policy reforms and addressing strategic audit recommendations across national regulatory schemes. You will lead critical pieces of work encompassing cost recovery reviews, charging frameworks, and the establishment of robust program performance measurement systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead complex policy research, analysis, and problem-solving to drive national program improvements and audit response implementations.
- Support comprehensive reviews of fee structures and cost-recovery arrangements, ensuring alignment with Australian Government charging principles and regulatory frameworks.
- Develop, monitor, and evaluate meaningful program performance measures to showcase regulatory and public outcomes.
- Research, synthesise, and author clear, high-quality ministerial briefs, executive submissions, discussion papers, and stakeholder consultation material.
- Partner cross-functionally across divisional teams, corporate finance, state/territory counterparts, and external industry stakeholders.
- Identify emerging policy, operational, and reputational risks, delivering sound mitigation strategies within legislative boundaries.

What We Are Looking For

- Demonstrated experience in policy analysis, regulatory review, or cost-recovery/fee model analysis in a government or public sector environment.

- Proven ability to translate complex technical/regulatory information into polished, concise briefs and papers tailored to senior decision-makers.
- Experience in commonwealth budgeting or understanding of finance
- Familiarity with government performance frameworks, audit response implementation, or project scoping/delivery.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively across internal branches and industry groups.
- Ability to work autonomously under broad direction while managing competing priorities in a quick-paced setting.
