Group Financial Controller (6-Month Temp-to-Perm)

Location: On-site Melbourne CBD

Engagement: 6-Month Contract to Permanent

Direct Reports: 3, Indirect 15

About the Chance

An agile, multi-entity private investment and operating group is seeking an accomplished, hands-on Group Financial Controller for an initial 6-month temp-to-perm engagement.

The group is undergoing rapid expansion and executing an aggressive inorganic growth strategy. Operating across high-volume service entities and an international high-growth SaaS business, the finance team requires a commercial, systems-savvy controller to lead integration efforts, streamline group reporting, and embed scalable financial governance.

The Role

Reporting directly to the executive leadership team, you will hold end-to-end accountability for group consolidation, governance, cash management, and financial control. You will inherit three direct reports with a wider team of 15, with immediate focus placed on post-acquisition finance integration, harmonising multi-entity ledgers, and building automated, repeatable reporting cadences.

Key Responsibilities:

- M&A; & Post-Merger Integration: Lead the operational finance onboarding of newly acquired trading entities, migrating charts of accounts, aligning reporting standards, and standardising month-end closes.
- Complex Data & Financial Modelling: Interrogate, clean, and consolidate disparate datasets exported from multiple legacy platforms; build robust, dynamic Excel models to extract actionable operational and financial metrics.
- Group Reporting & Consolidation: Deliver accurate, board-level monthly management accounts, group consolidated P&L;, balance sheets,

and cash flow forecasts across trading subsidiaries and offshore technology assets.
- International & Fiduciary Governance: Maintain rigorous financial control and compliance across local trading arms, fiduciary/family trust structures, and an international digital subscription entity.
- Process & Controls Modernisation: Evaluate legacy finance workflows, eliminate bottlenecks, and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) suitable for a fast-scaling platform.
- Leadership: Coach, develop, and supervise a team of 15, fostering an adaptable, high-output team culture.

Who We Are Looking For

This role will suit a commercially astute, technically sound financial controller who thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments rather than mature, steady-state corporate finance functions.

- Qualifications: CA, CPA, ACCA, ACA (or equivalent professional accounting qualification).
- Track Record: Proven success within private equity (PE)-backed platforms, high-growth mid-market environments, or acquisitive roll-up groups.
- Integration Expertise: Demonstrated hands-on experience running post-merger finance integrations, chart-of-accounts standardisation, and system cutovers.
- Advanced Analytical Capabilities: Advanced Excel capability (complex lookups, nested logic, multi-source data modelling, Power Query preferred)

with a demonstrated appetite for rolling up your sleeves to reconcile messy multi-system data feeds.
- Multi-Entity & Governance Exposure: Prior exposure to multi-currency reporting, cross-border corporate entities, and private trust structures is strongly advantageous.
- Mindset: Proactive, outcome-driven, and comfortable operating autonomously amid ambiguity and ongoing organisational growth.

What's on Offer

- Immediate start with a clear, performance-based conversion to a permanent executive position.
- Significant exposure to continuous deal activity, corporate restructuring, and global entity management.
- High degree of autonomy to implement your own reporting rhythms, tools, and best-practice frameworks.
