YOUR FUTURE STARTS HERE IN HEDLAND

2027 First Nations School-Based Traineeships
Certificate II in Workplace Skills | Multiple positions available

For Year 10 students entering Year 11 in 2027

There's no need to have a whole career mapped out. A school-based traineeship gives students the chance to earn their own money, build confidence and discover what they enjoy -while continuing their school studies.

Programmed has multiple school-based traineeship positions available for 2027 with a variety of companies across Hedland.

These opportunities are open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students only, commencing Year 11 in 2027.

How does it work?

The traineeship runs across Year 11 in 2027 and Year 12 in 2028, combining:

- Paid work one day per week with a local company.
- A TAFE training block once per term, working towards a nationally recognised Certificate II in Workplace Skills.
- School studies at Hedland Senior High School, continuing secondary education alongside work and training.

It's a commitment across both school years, with students required to remain enrolled at and attend Hedland Senior High School throughout the traineeship. Guidance and support are provided to help students balance school, work and TAFE.

What could the role involve?

Students will get a look behind the scenes and help with the everyday tasks that keep a business running. Depending on the workplace, activities could include:

- Building computer skills-entering information, assisting with data entry and keeping records up to date.
- Helping with emails-preparing messages, organising emails and assisting with internal team communication.
- Learning office systems-getting familiar with different computer programs, business systems and office equipment.
- Working with different teams-supporting people across the business and learning about the work they do.
- Preparing documents-helping create letters, spreadsheets, presentations and team updates.
- Keeping things organised-assisting with bookings,

meetings, ordering supplies and organising information.
- Supporting daily operations-helping update training records, organise team schedules and prepare operational paperwork.

Students learn as they go, with guidance from the people they work with. It's a chance to try different tasks, build confidence and discover current interests.

What are the benefits?

- Earn while learning through paid employment.
- Build confidence and independence, along with communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- Work towards a nationally recognised qualification while still at school.
- Contribute towards the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) and graduation requirements.
- Build a résumé with practical experience and workplace contacts.
- Explore future pathways into employment or further training.

Who are we looking for?

Applicants must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students who will be entering Year 11 in 2027 and are enrolled at and attending Hedland Senior High School throughout the school-based traineeship.

No previous work experience is needed. We're looking for students with a willingness to learn, a positive attitude and a commitment to reliably attending school, work and TAFE.
