Bakar Smith is working with Akeeko Medical (Akeeko) to recruit a Product Marketing Manager. This is a new role in a small team getting ready to launch its first product.

About Akeeko

Akeeko is a founder-led Melbourne medical device company with a product designed to change how a common urological procedure is done.

Today, inserting a ureteric stent usually means booking an operating theatre, a general anaesthetic and an anaesthetist, and patients can wait many hours for a slot. Our first product, the Akeeko Stent Inserter™ (ASI), is designed to let a urologist do it at the patient's bedside under local anaesthetic. It's intended to give patients faster relief and free up theatre time and beds for hospitals. Our goal is for bedside insertion to become a routine option for suitable patients.

The ASI is already being used, in a carefully controlled way, in a small number of Australian public hospitals through the TGA Authorised Prescriber Scheme. We're now working with regulators towards full clearance and commercial launch, both expected in 2027.

The role

Your job is to help get the ASI bought by public hospitals and then bought again. That means working closely with our sales team. You'll give them the business case, materials and evidence they need when they meet surgeons, other healthcare professionals, procurement and value analysis committees. You'll also stay close enough to hear what's landing in the field and what isn't.

You'll have real room to shape how the ASI is positioned and launched. There's no playbook yet. You'll be writing it. If you have a valuable idea, you'll get to try it.

What you'll do

- Build the hospital business case for the ASI and keep it current as evidence grows. It's the main tool our sales team takes into every hospital.
- Create the presentations, brochures,



case studies and other sales materials the team needs, plus educational content for clinicians and patients.
- Develop the launch positioning and messaging. You'll draw on market and competitor research as well as what you hear from urologists, other healthcare professionals and hospital decision-makers.
- Work with the GM Corporate Affairs and Marketing on media and PR for launch. That includes drafting media releases, finding clinician stories worth telling, and working with healthcare and trade media.
- Plan and run our presence at conferences and clinical events. Measure what's working across all our marketing and refine it based on results and feedback from clinicians and hospitals.
- Work with our medical and quality colleagues so that everything we say is accurate and meets TGA advertising requirements.

About you

You have two to three years' experience marketing products into Australian hospitals, whether devices, consumables or similar, and you understand how purchasing decisions get made. Urology experience would be a bonus but isn't essential.

You're comfortable in a room with surgeons or procurement managers. You can turn clinical data into something a busy head of department will actually read, and you write just as well for a journalist. You like working alongside sales and want to see your work show up in orders.

Above all, you want the freedom and scope that come with a small company, and you're happy to roll up your sleeves.
