Biodiversity Offsets Approvals Lead

A leading consultancy is expanding its biodiversity offsets practice and is looking for a senior approvals specialist to lead complex offset approvals across State and Federal frameworks. This is a high-profile, commercially focused role working on major utilities, renewables, infrastructure and other major projects.

The role
Lead the preparation, submission and negotiation of complex biodiversity offset approvals under State and Federal frameworks
Provide technical and strategic input on offset strategies for major projects
Quality assure the work of senior ecologists, restoration and monitoring specialists
Build and maintain robust relationships with regulators, government agencies and First Nations groups
Contribute technical input to business development, proposals and client negotiations
Work closely with the Biodiversity Offsets Lead to turn approvals into effective implementation and long-term management programs
Apply GIS, drone, eDNA and AI tools where they are accepted under relevant guidelines
Mentor and develop technical staff in approvals processes and regulatory navigation

About you
Significant experience leading complex offset approvals
Deep knowledge of biodiversity offset frameworks and regulatory negotiation,



ideally across Queensland and other Australian jurisdictions at both State and Federal level
Commercial awareness and the ability to contribute to business development and client engagement
Strong stakeholder management skills, including with regulators, government agencies and First Nations groups
A high standard of technical quality assurance and experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams

Highly regarded
BAM accreditation under the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme, or equivalent senior approvals credentials in other jurisdictions
Experience with nature positive and biodiversity credit markets
Familiarity with carbon delivery as a partner rather than a principal
Project management and program-level delivery experience
