Senior Cyber Security Operations Analysts (APS6/EL1) – Federal Government | ACT, NSW, VIC or QLD

Multiple roles | 12-month initial contract, with two 12-month extension options | Hybrid | NV1 clearance required

Hunter Skilled is looking for experienced Senior Cyber Security Operations Analysts to join a Federal Government department’s Cyber Operations team.

Working in a Microsoft-focused environment, you’ll lead incident response and threat hunting and help improve security operations across Azure and on-premises systems.

What you’ll do
Lead investigations and responses to cyber incidents, from evidence collection and containment through to recovery
Carry out proactive threat hunting using Microsoft Sentinel and Defender XDR
Act as the technical lead across Sentinel, Defender for Endpoint, Purview and Entra ID
Improve detection content, telemetry, automation and incident response playbooks
Work with the managed SOC provider and review and validate its outputs




Coach analysts and quality-assure investigations and recommendations
Give practical, risk-based advice on vulnerability management and governance, risk and compliance (GRC)

What you’ll bring
Robust experience in cyber security operations, including monitoring, triage, incident response, threat hunting and complex investigations
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Defender XDR, Defender for Endpoint, Purview and Entra ID
A track record of improving detection, processes, automation and workflows alongside SOC providers and technical teams
Experience in Australian Government settings, including the PSPF, ISM and Essential Eight (desirable)
Certifications such as SC-200, SC-300, SC-401, AZ-500, CISSP, GCIH, GCIA, GCFA or CySA+ (highly regarded)
The ability to obtain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) clearance
