The Role:

Reporting to the Business and Finance Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of the Austunnel Group, supported by a small team of bookkeepers responsible for accounts payable and receivable.

This is a hands-on, full-time on-site role based in our Richmond office, suited to a qualified accountant who thrives in a high-volume, multi-entity environment and enjoys the operational complexity of a services business with a large field-based workforce, including multi-state payroll, workers' compensation, and active cash flow management.

Key responsibilities include:

- Lead end-to-end accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bookkeeping functions, mentoring and reviewing the work of bookkeeping staff

- Manage banking, cash management, invoicing, debt collection, and debtor finance facility reporting

- Complete month-end close, including balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger management across multiple entities

- Prepare monthly management reports including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and variance analysis

- Maintain live cash flow forecasts to support a wage-intensive operating model

- Prepare and lodge BAS, GST, payroll tax (multi-state), superannuation, and other statutory obligations

- Support the payroll team on complex weekly payroll covering 200+ field-based workers across multiple awards and EBAs

- Coordinate workers' compensation declarations, audits, and premium reviews across jurisdictions

- Manage portable long service leave obligations including CoINVEST (VIC) and QLeave (QLD)





- Liaise with the external accountant, auditors, insurance brokers, banking partners, and debtor finance facilitators

- Assist with year-end financial statements and tax return preparation

- Identify and implement improvements to financial controls and process efficiency

About You - Essential:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce

- CA or CPA qualified

- 5+ years' post-qualification experience in a commercial accounting role

- Demonstrated experience in multi-entity accounting and high-volume transactional environments

- Strong working knowledge of Australian payroll, payroll tax, superannuation, and workers' compensation obligations

- Advanced Xero experience across multiple entities

- Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, financial modelling)

- Excellent attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy

- Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders

- Self-motivated with the ability to manage competing deadlines

Desirable:

- Experience in construction, infrastructure, mining, or skilled trades services

- Familiarity with portable long service leave schemes (CoINVEST, QLeave, Coal LSL)

- Experience with debtor/invoice finance facilities

- Experience supporting or supervising bookkeepers
