D’Arcy Weil is recruiting a Commercial Contracts Manager, BESS on behalf of a global leader in grid-scale energy storage. Based in Sydney within the commercial team, the role is the point of contact for commercial contract matters on the company’s growing Australian project pipeline, including:
- Examining customer agreements, purchasing documents and amendments, and sizing the commercial risk they carry
- Understanding how a battery project is put together contractually, from equipment supply and performance obligations to milestone payments, handover and long-term servicing
- Working alongside sales, legal and technical colleagues in customer discussions, tracking issues and counterparty proposals
- Keeping contract records, key dates, notices and obligations accurate and current
- Building the review tools, standard positions and risk frameworks the business relies on
The role gives the business one place where contract risk is understood, positions are recorded and lessons carry forward from one project to the next.
The Role
- Agreement review and exposure assessment: Examine customer agreements, purchasing documents and amendments to identify and quantify commercial exposure, prepare deviation schedules, risk summaries and sign-off material,
and take matters to legal and specialist teams where escalation is needed
- Project commercial knowledge: Build a detailed working understanding of battery storage project structures, including equipment supply, performance obligations, milestone payments, handover conditions, long-term service and maintenance, and interface responsibilities, and turn it into practical input on scope changes, technical developments and changing customer requirements
- Deal team support: Work with sales, legal and technical colleagues in customer discussions, track open issues, analyse counterparty proposals, coordinate internal positions, and make sure negotiated outcomes are recorded and unresolved points are escalated
- Internal coordination: Act as the central contact for commercial contract matters across sales, legal, finance, engineering, delivery, procurement and service teams, gathering input and keeping each review moving on time
- Administration and record keeping: Keep contract records accurate and current across internal platforms, track key dates, obligations, notices and deliverables, and support variations, extensions and amendments after award through to close
- Capability and process building: Develop and maintain standard review tools, position statements and risk frameworks, capture recurring issues and lessons from completed projects,
and improve the consistency and efficiency of commercial processes across the Australian business
