About the Company
Our client is a well-established, family-owned civil contractor that has been delivering infrastructure across South Australia for 70 years. They self-perform a broad range of civil works, including roads and rehabilitation, stormwater and drainage, water and sewer mains, subdivisions, trenching, earthworks and concrete structures. Their clients include state government, local councils and major utility providers.

About the Role
Based in Adelaide, you’ll lead the estimating function on civil tenders across South Australia. Working closely with the business owners and operations team, you’ll own the cost position on each bid from first principles through to handover. You’ll have direct influence on what gets priced, how it gets built and what gets won.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead civil estimates across roads, water, drainage and subdivision tenders
- Build estimates from first principles: quantities, productivity rates, crew and plant build-ups, and methodology
- Review tender documents, drawings, specifications and geotech reports to identify risks, gaps and cost drivers
- Price risk and opportunity, and set appropriate contingency
- Prepare subcontractor and supplier RFQs, then assess and level the pricing that comes back
- Develop alternative methodologies and value-engineering options to sharpen bids
- Work with operations and project teams so estimates are realistic and buildable
- Document assumptions, exclusions and qualifications clearly
- Support tender reviews and hand won projects over to the delivery team
- Mentor and support junior estimators

About You
Essential:

- Proven Senior Estimator or experienced Estimator background with a civil contractor




- Track record estimating road, water and/or subdivision projects
- Strong first-principles estimating across earthworks, pavements, drainage, pipelines and concrete
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, geotech reports and contract documents
- Solid understanding of the tender process, risk assessment and commercial review
- Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or extensive practical civil experience
- Current driver’s licence

Highly regarded:
- Estimating experience on council, utility or DIT projects in South Australia
- Familiarity with Australian Standard contract forms (e.g. AS 2124, AS 4000)
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior estimators
