Mine Technology & Communications Technician 6-Month Contract | Surface Mining | 8/6 Roster

Hays is partnering with a leading organisation within the mining and resources sector to recruit an experienced Mine Technology & Communications Technician for an initial 6-month contract.
This is a site-based role working on an 8/6 roster, supporting critical communications, wireless networks and operational technology infrastructure across surface mining operations.

Your recent role

Reporting to the Mine Technology Lead, you will provide hands-on installation, support, maintenance and troubleshooting across mine site technology and communications infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

- Install, maintain and support radio and Wi-Fi infrastructure
- Troubleshoot TETRA Digital and UHF radio systems
- Provide administration and support for the TETRA Digital UHF Radio system
- Maintain reliable wireless network coverage across surface mining operations
- Support Wi-Fi access points and associated communications infrastructure
- Provide hands-on first-level support and maintenance of technology hardware
- Maintain radio fleet maps and program radios for contractors and site personnel
- Monitor telecommunications system performance and identify improvement opportunities
- Troubleshoot connectivity, radio and broader Operational Technology (OT) issues




- Analyse equipment failures and recommend replacement equipment or improvements
- Terminate, test and repair fibre cabling
- Support broader operational technology systems across site as required

What you'll need to succeed

- Previous experience in a mining technology, communications or systems role
- Experience working within surface mining operations
- Strong experience with wireless networks and radio systems
- Experience with TETRA Digital and/or UHF radio systems
- Experience installing and troubleshooting Wi-Fi and communications infrastructure
- Exposure to fleet management systems such as Minstar, Modular or Jigsaw
- Fibre cabling, termination and fault-finding experience
- ACMA Open Cabling Registration with relevant fibre, structured cabling and coax endorsements
