SGESCO-MAX at Archerfield QLD, is an established Australian mechanical and electrical engineering business that has built its name on making heavy vehicles and machinery safer.

Through its MAX-SAFE range, the company designs and supplies anti-rollaway systems, radar and AI camera detection for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users, blind spot monitoring and seatbelt warning systems for buses and coaches, all brought together in its MAX-SAFE Safety Eco

System.

Councils, waste and recycling operators, mining companies, civil contractors, freight and transport fleets and emergency services across Australia and New Zealand rely on these solutions, which are supported through a dealer network and offered to customers internationally. SGESCO-MAX is now looking for an experienced Engineering Professional nec (Mechatronics Engineer) to join the team.

This position sits at the point where mechanical, electrical and software engineering meet.

You will help take MAX-SAFE projects from design and costing through to installation, commissioning and reporting, spending time both at the Archerfield base and out on customer sites where the systems are being fitted and trialled.

Engineering Professional nec (Mechatronics Engineer) | SGESCO-MAX | Archerfield QLD Key Responsibilities•Work closely with the company’s project management and product development team on the electrical, electronic and mechanical detail of MAX-SAFE systems, giving technical input on anti-rollaway, radar, AI camera and seatbelt monitoring solutions from concept and prototype through to testing and production fleet builds, and configuring and calibrating sensors and control settings to suit each vehicle type and operating workplace.•Work out the controllers, sensors, wiring harnesses, brackets and other materials each fleet rollout or new-build programme will need, together with the technician and installer hours involved,

then cost the full package and confirm it sits within the agreed project budget, raising any variation early.•Attend customer depots, council yards, mine sites, quarries and body-builder workshops where installations and trials are in progress, checking work against the project plan, commissioning and testing fitted systems, and confirming that each milestone and performance target is being achieved.•Prepare clear written material for customers, dealers, management and, where needed, the wider public, including project timelines, trial outcome and impact reports, responses to tenders and requests for proposal, technical specifications and product statements.•Diagnose and resolve integration issues on heavy vehicle electrical systems, CAN bus networks, air braking interfaces and control modules using diagnostic tools and logged data, and feed what is learnt back into product and installation design.•Oversee the scope of larger multi-vehicle programmes for operators in waste management, mining, civil construction, logistics, transport and emergency services, allocating work to installation technicians and dealer partners, reviewing the quality and contribution of each person involved, and giving practical feedback where standards slip.•Research the risks and wider impacts that come with each project, such as vehicle compatibility, fail-safe braking behaviour, sensor false alarms, driver distraction and downtime for the customer, and put together a plan that deals with those concerns before installation work starts.•Support the integration of MAX-SAFE solutions with in-vehicle monitoring,

telematics and fleet management platforms, and help build installation guides, wiring diagrams and training content for drivers, technicians and dealers.•Hold every design, installation and project record to a high standard, following all relevant federal, state and local requirements, Australian Design Rules, heavy vehicle and work health and safety obligations, electrical standards and industry guidelines, together with the company’s own quality procedures.•Provide technical support to customers and the national dealer network, investigate warranty and field issues, and contribute to continuous improvement and new product work by assessing emerging sensor, radar and AI technologies and component suppliers.

About you:•At least 3 years of relevant experience in mechatronics, mechanical, electrical or related engineering work.•A bachelor degree or higher qualification (AQF Level 7 or above) in mechatronics, mechanical, electrical or a closely related engineering discipline.

Relevant experience or on-the-job training in addition to the formal qualification will be well regarded.

Personal attributes:•A genuine commitment to safety and a robust eye for detail.•Practical problem solver who is comfortable moving between the office, the workshop and the field.•Works well in a team and is keen to keep learning as vehicle safety technology moves forward.
