Summary

Our client, Nino's of Victor Harbor, is seeking to add a skilled Cook to its established kitchen team in Victor Harbor, South Australia. Operating since 1974, this family-owned restaurant serves a diverse menu of Italian-inspired cuisine, including freshly prepared pizzas, pasta, seafood and contemporary Australian dishes. The successful applicant will contribute to consistent food preparation, quality standards and efficient kitchen operations across breakfast, lunch and dinner services.

The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Prepare and cook a diverse range of Italian-inspired and contemporary Australian dishes according to established recipes.

• Prepare fresh pasta, pizza toppings, seafood, meat and vegetable dishes to restaurant standards.

• Examine ingredients and fresh produce to ensure quality, freshness and suitability before preparation.

• Operate and regulate ovens, grills, stovetops and other commercial cooking equipment safely and efficiently.

• Season and flavour dishes appropriately throughout cooking to maintain consistent taste and presentation.

• Monitor cooking times, temperatures and preparation methods to ensure dishes meet required standards.

• Portion and plate meals accurately, adding appropriate sauces, garnishes and accompaniments before service.

• Prepare meals accommodating dietary requirements, food allergies and specific customer requests.

• Maintain appropriate food storage temperatures and follow safe handling procedures for perishable ingredients.





• Coordinate food preparation and cooking activities to support timely breakfast, lunch and dinner services.

• Monitor ingredient availability, assist with stock rotation and minimise food wastage during kitchen operations.

• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of cooking equipment, preparation surfaces and kitchen workstations.

• Assist with estimating ingredient quantities and preparing ingredients according to anticipated service requirements.

• Collaborate with kitchen staff to maintain productive workflows and consistent food quality during busy periods.

• Support the training of junior kitchen staff in food preparation techniques and protected cooking practices.

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:

• A minimum AQF Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification relevant to professional kitchen operations.

• A minimum of 12 months' recent, directly relevant experience working as a Cook in a commercial restaurant kitchen.

• Demonstrated ability to prepare and cook Italian-inspired dishes, including pasta, pizza, seafood and contemporary Australian meals.

• Sound knowledge of commercial cooking techniques, ingredient preparation, seasoning, portion control and consistent food presentation standards.

• Practical understanding of Australian food safety requirements, hygienic food handling, temperature control and safe ingredient storage procedures.

• Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment safely while maintaining consistent cooking quality during demanding restaurant service periods.

• Proven organisational skills to coordinate multiple cooking tasks, manage preparation times and minimise unnecessary food wastage.

• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with flexibility to work across breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekends and public holidays.
