Lead Production. Build Capability. Shape What Comes Next.
A1 Roadlines is looking for an experienced Production Manager to take ownership of our manufacturing operations and play a key role in strengthening how we deliver today while building capability for the future.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who knows that great production performance comes from more than schedules and numbers. It comes from good people, clear expectations, strong planning and continually finding better ways to work.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you'll lead our production team across fabrication, electrical, assembly and final fit-out, with genuine scope to influence safety, quality, productivity, workflow and delivery performance.
And while A1 Roadlines retains the agility and close-knit culture of a specialist manufacturing business, you'll have the backing of Varley Group, one of Australia's longest-established privately owned engineering and manufacturing organisations.
If you're ready to step into a role where your leadership will be visible and your impact will be tangible, we'd love to hear from you.
About A1 Roadlines
Established in 1972, A1 Roadlines has built more than 50 years of specialist capability in road safety and traffic management solutions.
Our product range includes:
- Scorpion Truck Mounted Attenuators (TMAs)
- Automated Cone Laying Machines (ACLMs)
- Portable Traffic Lights
- Traffic Control Equipment
Our products support road construction, infrastructure and traffic management operations across Australia and internationally.
Now part of Varley Group, A1 Roadlines combines decades of specialist road safety expertise with the engineering capability, resources and stability of a broader Australian manufacturing group.
We're proud of where we've come from, and we're focused on what comes next.
The Opportunity
As Production Manager, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day performance of the production function, leading the people, planning and workflow required to turn customer requirements into high-quality finished products.
You'll coordinate activity across fabrication, electrical, assembly and final fit-out, ensuring the right people, materials and priorities come together to keep production moving safely and efficiently.
But we're not looking for someone to simply maintain the status quo.
We want a leader who can:
build capability, develop people, create accountability and continually improve the way the operation performs.
You'll be close enough to the workshop to understand what's happening on the floor, while maintaining the bigger-picture focus required to manage schedules, resources, competing priorities and business growth.
What You'll Own
You'll be responsible for:
- Leading day-to-day production and workshop operations
- Planning production schedules, workflow, labour and resources
- Ensuring customer delivery commitments and production deadlines are achieved
- Leading, coaching and developing the production team
- Establishing clear expectations and building accountability across the workshop
- Coordinating workflow across fabrication, electrical, assembly and final fit-out
- Monitoring labour utilisation, productivity and production performance
- Identifying production bottlenecks and implementing practical solutions
- Driving continuous improvement across processes, workflow and efficiency
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship, product quality and compliance
- Ensuring materials, inventory and resources are available to meet production requirements
- Working closely with Sales, Purchasing and Business Operations to coordinate priorities and customer requirements
- Maintaining a strong focus on WHS and safe working practices
- Providing the General Manager with clear visibility of production performance, risks and delivery requirements
- Building greater production capability to support the future growth of A1 Roadlines
About You
You're an experienced production leader who knows how to get the best out of both people and processes.
You're comfortable walking the floor, talking with tradespeople, solving problems and making decisions, but equally capable of stepping back, looking at the operation as a whole and asking:
"How can we do this better?"
You'll ideally bring:
- Previous experience as a Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Workshop Manager, Operations Manager or similar
- Experience leading teams within manufacturing, engineering, automotive, transport, fabrication or a related industrial environment
- Strong people leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop and hold teams accountable
- Proven production planning, scheduling and workflow management capability
- Strong practical problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Mechanical aptitude and a hands-on understanding of manufacturing environments
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Sound knowledge of quality, compliance and WHS requirements
- Experience managing competing production priorities and changing customer requirements
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of how productivity, labour and quality influence business performance
- A proactive mindset and genuine interest in continuous improvement
Highly regarded
- Experience within automotive, vehicle manufacturing or equipment production
- Exposure to ERP or manufacturing management systems
- Forklift Licence
- HR Licence
Why Join A1 Roadlines?
This is an opportunity to own a production function and influence what it becomes, rather than simply inherit a schedule and keep it moving.
You'll benefit from:
- Competitive salary package
- Fully maintained company vehicle
- Stable, long-term leadership opportunity
- Direct access to the General Manager
- Genuine influence over production and operational improvement
- Opportunity to develop and strengthen an established production team
- Support from the broader Varley Group's engineering and manufacturing capability

- The chance to work with products that play an important role in road safety
