Get Around Caboolture
Australia
Student Project Volunteer: Urban Planning, Transport, Community, Politics, Marketing or related field (non-competitive role)
Work on a real transport problem in suburban Australia.
* Are you studying one of the above subjects or a related field?
* Would you like to apply what you're learning to a real problem affecting people in a suburban community?
Get Around Caboolture is looking for university students to join MOSAIC, a collaborative project exploring how we can better understand and respond to transport problems in suburban and outer suburban communities.
You will work with other students and community members to investigate a real problem where the answer isn't already known.
What you'll be involved in
Depending on your skills and interests, your work may include:
- researching a transport or planning problem
- looking at relevant planning, transport and government policy
- examining how other communities have approached similar problems
- understanding the experiences of people affected by the problem
- analysing information, evidence and available data
- identifying the factors that make the problem difficult to solve
- developing and comparing possible responses
- helping communicate findings to people outside the university
The emphasis is on understanding the problem before deciding on a response.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to work that is connected to real transport and planning issues in the Moreton Bay Qld region.
Who we're looking for
We'd particularly like to hear from students studying:
- Urban and regional planning
- Transport planning or transport engineering
- Urban design or urbanism
- Geography
- Civil engineering
- Public policy
- Political science
- Community engagement or community development
- Architecture
- Other related disciplines
You don't need previous skilled experience in transport.
We're interested in students who are curious, willing to ask questions and comfortable working with problems that don't have straightforward answers.
What you can gain
This project provides experience in:
- applied research
- transport and urban planning
- policy analysis
- problem definition
- community engagement
- interdisciplinary collaboration
- communicating research and ideas
- working on a live community issue
Your contribution can provide material for your CV, portfolio or university discussions about practical experience.
About MOSAIC
MOSAIC is being developed by Get Around Caboolture as a framework for bringing together community knowledge, research and practical problem solving.
The focus is transport in suburban and outer suburban communities, where the circumstances can be very different from those of inner-city areas.
We are interested in questions such as:
How do we understand a transport problem properly? What gets in the way of possible solutions? And what could realistically be done?
Commitment
This is an unpaid volunteer position suitable for university students.
The project is designed to accommodate university study. The time commitment can be discussed according to your availability and the project work involved.
Work can be undertaken online, with opportunities to participate in relevant activities in the Caboolture and Moreton Bay region.
Organisation
Get Around Caboolture is a community organisation advocating for more transport choice in outer suburban communities.
Please include a couple of sentences explaining why this project interests you and what you'd like to learn or contribute.
We receive a high volume of applications, so we will only be able to respond to applications that include this information.
