Corrections Victoria (CV)

is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). Our vision is ‘Safer prisons, safer people, safer communities'. Our mission is to have ‘A safer, smarter system with a skilled and supported workforce, that enables people in our care to make better decisions'.

CV operates Victoria's adult corrections system. It ensures people are safely and securely contained and aims to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

The Sentence Management Division is responsible for identifying the needs of people in custody and matching them to correctional resources with the objective of placing and managing individuals appropriately. It is a process of balancing security, management and needs of individuals, the community need for protection and efficient and effective operation of the correctional system.

The Complex Classification Unit (CCU) is part of the Sentence Management Division and is responsible for guiding the journey of individuals across the period of their sentence, in conjunction with CV's proactive approach to managing risk and responsiveness.

CCU plays a critical role in the CVE Service Delivery Model. The unit oversees the management of individuals in custody identified as high-profile or presenting with significant and/or complex risk and needs,

including those convicted of terrorism offences and individuals considered to pose a violent extremism risk.

About the Role

The Manager is responsible for overseeing the management of the VE cohort in custody, providing specialised case coordination and advice to support decision makers and frontline staff. The position will provide professional leadership and development to a team who work directly with individuals in custody and frontline staff, providing practice advice and coordinating appropriate interventions to mitigate violent extremism risk. The position reports to the General Manager, CCU and works collaboratively with stakeholders across CV well as external agencies, to strengthen outcomes for people in custody, and reduce violent extremism risk.

Some of your duties will include:

Oversee and supervise a specialised team, leading reflective practice and providing professional development to foster an environment that maximises staff potential and a culture of integrity.

Develop and provide quality assurance of complex documents prepared for stakeholders and decision makers involved in the CVE Service Delivery Model, or otherwise relating to the VE cohort.
